While driving around Bedfordshire, a visit to Willington to see St. Lawrence Church and the adjacent impressively large dovecote and the stables, dating back to the 1540s, is well worth the time. It is especially interesting if a local guide is available to point out...More

Not open as a rule, but on rare occasions. When it isn't open, park in its grounds, look around the building's exterior and enjoy a planned walk from the map on the fence. Allegedly visited by King Henry VIII

There's not a lot of it, but it's a place of great history. Your best bet is to combine it with the nearby country walks and a stop at the Danish Camp by the river. A really nice afternoon all round.

Our visit was made very interesting because we had a very knowledgeable guide who opened the Dovecote for us and explained the history of the buildings. Without the guide the buildings themselves would have been a lot less interesting.

We visited the Classic car show last night. the area is beautiful, calm and offered a lovely back drop to the magnificent automobiles. A history of the village was shown with photographs and stories. Tea and cakes served...how very Willington !

These buildings are the only National Trust properties in Bedfordshire and I am lucky enough to live in the village. They have a fascinating history and are well worth a visit especially when opened up to the public on a bank holiday. Can thoroughly recommend.
