Amazing story behind, free entrance, unfortunately not organised, but really worth the stop, people are friendly, imagine you are in 90s

Nice fortress on the way to Vardzia, well worth and stop and a 5 min walk up to the castle. Nicely restored and makes for great photos. Supposedly Alexander the Great also thought it was a nice castle that he wanted for his own. Not much else in town, but maybe have a few scraps for the friendly dog 'guides'... More

Khertvisi fortress is situated on the high rocky hill in the narrow canyon at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Paravani Rivers. This is one of the oldest fortresses in Georgia and was functional throughout the Georgian feudal period. The fortress was first build in the 2nd century BC. The church was built in 10th c, and the present walls... More

Great place to get an idea of how people were protected by their fortresses. Rooms are available to stay at - excellent. Also great spa!

Clifftop fortress which is a great photo opportunity but may not be worth the climb to the fortress itself unless you have plenty of time. Situated on the confluence of two major rivers the views are stunning.

We didn't stop to climb up to the fortress as the weather was snowy, cold, and damp; however, what remains are the walls of the fort so the trek up is not really necessary.

Nice walk in, very ancient church, nice view around. You can include it in your Georgia trip when going to visit Vardzia.

Made a photo stop here enroute to Vardzia. The surrounding view is nice enough but don't think it is necessary to go all the way to the top. Save the energy for visiting the caves in Vardzia which is far more amazing.
