My wife and I have just spent 10 days around linyi and qindao. The residence although focuses on his calligraphy also has beautiful and relaxing places to rest, meditate and enjoy the quiet surroundings. You can have a tour but we did it on our own and enjoyed the time just chilling out. Worth a visit.

This is one of the few historical places to check out in Linyi and it's totally worth a visit if you have a free morning/afternoon.
The visit only takes a few hours (if you go veeery slowly like I did, otherwise one hour max) and in my opinion it's best to see on a sunny day to fully enjoy the outdoor space.
It's mainly made of temples and beautiful gardens and the open rooms host examples of Wang Xizhi contributions to the art of calligraphy. Definitely an interesting and different place to see.

Just one step forward - and you are in the quiet park inside the big city. Bamboo boscage, exotic trees, Paths lining the ponds, small waterfalls. Memorial of famous caligraphist...Set of temples... Fantastic!

My family came here and really enjoyed ourselves. It is a nice walk around the residence to see the courtyards and calligraphy. There are little paths and trails and we went around exploring them. It is on a major bus route which is nice. Take the #6 bus and it has 2 stops. Hard to miss once you find yourself in an old section of town with lots of calligraphy shops.

On our trip trough China we had the chance to stay 2 days in Linyi and visit the former residence of Wang Xizhi. This park with residence and temples shows an impressive overview of Chinese calligraphy. Be sure to be accompanied by someone who can translate, since international tourism is not very common and guides don't speak English.

My husband and I spent 7 weeks in Linyi teaching at Linyi University. We visited this lovely site and learned about this famous citizen. The gardens were beautiful and well kept. It was a very tranquil setting in the center of a busy city. We learned a little about calligraphy and even attempted to write some. There was a section where an artist was painting some large murals.

a glimpse of ancient China. The school and the black water pond where he washes his brushes are kept in tact. A lovely garden.
