Josselin castle, a visit not to be missed ...

Imagine a fairytale castle, whose tree majestic toweres dominate the river below. Concealed behind the massive fortress walls you will find the exquisite, flamboyant Gothic and Renaissance facade of a ducal palace. Here the very history of Brittany was forged. It is a place of legend and magic.

Still the home of the Rohan family after 1000 years, in the public rooms restored in the 19th century, you will see a unique collection of furniture and paintings.

On our French holiday with extended family, we all went here. We did the English tour because it's our first language, though half the family are fluent French speakers and the other half fluent German speakers... The tour probably would have been interesting if the guide had actually spoken English. It was strange...she knew SO much and said some big... More

We stayed at the Hotel Du Chateau , opposite and enjoyed amazing views of the chateau ,illuminated at night and woke each morning to the same beautiful view in the bright sunshine ! when we visited the chateau itself on the third day of our stay ; we were pleased to find the interior as wonderful as we'd expected. Lots... More

This is a château still occupied by a private family. The main floor is open to the public by guided tour. Our guide's English was limited but still very useful in understanding that which we were shown. Basically, the present château dates from late 15th century with extensive restoration in the 19th century. It's well worth the trouble to visit... More

Absolutely stunning place to visit, beautiful Chateau still habited by the family, beautiful grounds situated in a historic town with great places to eat and stay, highly recommended. Just check for opening times and it isn't always open. They do tours in English

If you enjoy visiting chateau then Josselin is not to be missed. It's built to an unusual design; being long and only one room wide rather than a traditional square/rectangle/polygonal defensive space. Four rooms on the ground floor are open for guided tours and the interiors are amazing. The tour was in French but our friendly guide was happy to... More

A wonderful French chateau overlooking the Oust Valley with the Nantes-Brest canal running through the town. A free English or French tour takes you through the ground floor.....the Rohan family still live in the chateau and have longstanding mayoral responsibilities in the town. You will be enthralled by the hymns of the choir/congregation in the Basilique Notre Dame du Roncier.... More

Whilst the tour of the chateau is interesting you can (almost) see exactly the same by looking through the windows and reading the information leaflet (okay without the detailed description from a guide) As we missed the English language tour which is early in the afternoon we did take the tour (given in French) and thought the guide (who was... Always like looking at Chateau's , this did not disappoint. Low score was given as the tour was only given in French. we were able to make out some of the details, but the tour was spoilt by the lack of any English translations. It seem fro other reviews that English tours are available. Well woth a visit if you... More

Stayed next to this castle in a gite and the location is breathtaking. To wander the grounds and enjoy the tour of the castle is an excellent experience...the mirror wardrobe story in the castle always makes me chuckle with the enthusiasm shown. My date of travel was AUG2013 however the site does not allow me to show

Over half a millenium old but still inhabited by the duke and the duchess of Rohan (and their cats) the castle is a nice place to visit if you are around in Central Brittany. As it is a home to the family only a small part of the ground floor can be visited so don't count on much, two state... More
