I did the reindeer sledding, ice fishing and snow shoe trip on christmas eve of 2019. While the sledding experience was good, the host was a little annoying. She kept shouting at some of the guests including me. It looks like only a few tables in the small restaurant where they take the guests for soup/coffee etc is reserved for this group. I had just entered the restaurant and was just standing next to a table (which was empty and did not even sit there). That was the table not reserved for this group. She immediately came yelling at me, don't be here go there. The way she yelled, the whole group was stunned and turned back to see what was wrong with her. I can understand if she had become mad if I had sat in someone else's chair. I had just entered that restaurant 15 seconds before and was standing next to the chair and the way she yelled really disappointed me. I told her not to yell at me and tell that in a polite way. After I said that she did take a couple of sarcastic jibes at me during ice fishing. Then when other people intervened, she apologized to me half heartedly. When we were returning back after all the activities in the reindeer sled, she told me she read my last name a day before the activity and thought that I may not understand english. She asked me whether English was 2nd language in the place where i grew up. (She assumed that I'm from Asia looking at my color and last name). When I told her I was visiting from California, USA, her tone completely changed and she told me that she was not a person who usually yells at people and apologized to me multiple times. I don't know what it meant. Does it mean that she usually does not like people who come from Asia and has some presumptions about them. I just hope she does not repeat that to any tourists in the future. Although i liked the weather and the activity, the host kind of disappointed me. Please don't repeat this to other travelers.

On Christmas Day we booked a trip involving a reindeer sled trip to Wolf lake where we would do some ice fishing and then snow shoe round the forest before Salmon soup. Well this didn't come close to describing this experience. We were met on arrival by Petra who was so very welcoming ensuring that everyone in the group could understand whatever language they spoke. She wanted to ensure that we all knew how to look after the animals and that her guests were safe. This was lighted hearted but instructive. The sleds were for two people so I went with my son, whilst my husband was with Petra - his reindeer was called meteor and apparently that name suited him throughly as he raced the majority of the trip. Fortunately ours was more sedate with the odd period of galloping. Following the return journey we all were awarded our reindeer driving license. Prior to ice fishing we were able to get warm in the Kota with hot berry juice by the fire and then on to ice fishing. We were shown how to drill the holes (manually) unlike another group who used a drill to power the ice drill! We were shown how to fish and how to put maggots on the hook and then left to it! Unfortunately no catch for us on that occasion. If we were cold at any time we were welcome to return to the Kota to get warm. Then a bit of time to snow shoe - we went right off track which was great fun but exhausting- no chance of getting cold though! Then back for the most fantastic Salmon soup I have ever tasted. We had booked for later in the week with them to snow shoe and ice fishing. The welcome.was as warm as the first time, but this time we were in a much smaller group which was great. We walked for a total of about 4 Km, half to the lake and half back. My son caught a rainbow trout which was cleaned and grilled for us to eat - enough for 5 of us to have a decent taste. This time the food was an elk burger which was again delicious (if you were vegetarian there was an alternative available).

We were a group of 12 with 2 young children from the tropics. Our guide was Petra who led us on our excursion. We started of with an easy-going and enjoyable reindeer ride, followed by ice-fishing, then a snowshoeing trek, back to check on our luck in ice-fishing. We were then treated to delicious salmon soup, Finnish bread, warm berry juice and our freshly grilled catch! We finished off with a reindeer ride back to our starting point, this time a little faster, as it was downhill. This whole excursion took about 4.5 to 5 hours. The booking process is easy and we were well prepared with information given ahead of time. Petra is an excellent guide. Well-versed and well-spoken. She has a wicked sense of humour (love it!) and she taught us many things about Lapland and loads of tips on keeping warm. Highly recommended!

What an awesome day spent with Petra our guide. The reindeer ride was a unique experience as was the ice fishing and snow shoeing. Petra was very entertaining and had all the activities well planned and executed for our group of 10, which included two children. Also enjoyed the warm, cosy cabin and the delicious fish soup. Highly recommend this activity.

Loved this experience! A must when visiting Finland to have a taste of the culture. Wrap up warm! The experience took about 4hours, We started off with a reindeer ride, my husband and son had ‘Prince’ who seem to want to take in the scenery and trot at a snail pace! Ours on the other hand was giving a fast ride until we got stuck behind slow traffic ahead. they took us deeper into the forest were we then got to feed the reindeer and take pictures with them. Next onto ice fishing (to try and catch lunch) we were shown how to drill a hole in the ice lake and set up the fishing rod, then got to make our own holes (as a family of 4 my husband definitely worked out his muscles on this task!) we then were able to try snow shoeing whilst we left the fish to catch the bait. Petra our guide was very friendly, funny and helpful, answering any questions we had, gave us interesting information about our experiences/surroundings/Finland. Once finished with the snow shoes we returned to check on the fishing, unfortunately we hadn’t caught anything. But were still rewarded with lunch, in a nice warm hut, a lovely fish soup or pea soup for myself who couldn’t eat fish. After lunch we returned back to out reindeer for another ride back to the start. One of the highlights of our family trip to Finland, Highly recommended experience, well worth the money.
