Juha, Maiti & Kate whisked us away to a fantastic lakeside location and provided cameras, guidance, sustenance and somewhere to warm up during the cold night. We were fortunate enough to be treated to a phenomenal aurorae display.

Juha is one of the most reliable guides in the world. The night we went to 'Aurora chasing' the forecast was a little bit odd, but Juha, continuously was checking the Aurora forecast and drove to get us to a spot where there were a chance to see northern lights.
Thanks to his efforts we could be able to see and take pictures of them really well.
Besides that, Artic Frontier is prepared with a very good Thermal Suits (we were at -23ºC that night), really good cameras and... if this wasn't enough, Juha prepared some hot beverage to drink.
In a summary, Artic Frontier is definitively the best choice to try to see Northern Lights! Highly recommended.

Dec 2022
We did the base camp trip in Dec 2022 with our 5 and 7 year old girls. We booked in the hope of seeing the lights - our girls are too young to enjoy other trips (like the snowmobile ones where kids get put in a sleigh for the whole thing). Juha picked us up in Levi and we were joined by a lovely couple from the USA.
It was massively cloudy so the odds were against us and unfortunately we didn't get to see the lights BUT it was still a huge highlight of the trip and I'd absolutely recommend it. Juha was a wonderful host - the kids loved sitting around the fire drinking warm berry juice and eating brownies and they still talk about 'making ice cream' using Kate and Juha's homemade syrups mixed with fresh snow.
Juha also helped them cut a hole in the icy lake and had some sparklers which our youngest loved. For me and my husband, it was a huge thrill to be on the lake in complete darkness and complete quiet. We loved spotting the footprints of the wildlife in the snow.
Yes, we'd have loved to see the lights but I'm still SO glad we did this trip. Thanks Kate and Juha!

Most amazing experience ever with Kate and John during our time in Levi! They gave us a very authentic and personal tour and tailored everything to our preferences! Kate is an amazing cook and we thoroughly enjoyed the homemade finish dishes she prepared for us! They made our trip truly unforgettable and we recommend this company for anyone travelling to Levi!

Tbh we weren’t massively hopeful of seeing the Northern Lights as the weather had been pretty cloudy. But our guide Juha assured us it would be a good night. And he was right! The first thing is, this is a photography-led tour. Our first stop is the studio where we collected our cameras - high quality Nikons with tripod and remote control. A brief lesson, collected our snow suits and boots (provided), then into the van and off. Within 10 minutes we were parked in a lay-by snapping photos of the Aurora. Another stop, then finally on to Base Camp by the lake. This is a beautiful spot, very private, quiet and a great place to see the expanse of sky. Juha is a good guide not only of the Aurora but also of the night sky, pointing out stars and galaxies. Juha prepared a warming break inside his hut with a real fire, warm blueberry juice and brownies. Then more photos before heading back to Levi. A 4 hour trip but worth it. Left happy clutching our SD cards with our precious photos.

My husband and I went on an Aurora Chase with Arctic Frontier in February 2022 and, even though we didn't get a chance to see the Aurora that night (the forecast was all clouds - boo!), we had such a fun time!
Our guide, Juha, picked us up at Northern Lights Ranch and took us to their garage to pick up our gear. The forecast showed our best shot would be a little later, so we drove around a bit, got acquainted with our cameras, and headed to their lakeside site.
We had a lovely snack of the most delicious brownies and warm blueberry juice by a fire and learned a bit about the local food culture. Kate also made a delicious coconut milk snow dessert that was so tasty!
The lake was frozen and we had the opportunity to stand on the ice, taking photos of the beautiful cabin and trees.
After our snack, we headed out to try a few more sites but the Aurora didn't make an appearance. We still had a fun night and had some cool photos of the beautiful frozen lake and us drawing hearts with our flashlights.
Definitely do a chase with Arctic Frontier, if you have the opportunity!

We went on a Northern Lights chase with James, (of GreenTrek) who was filling in as guide for his friends who run Arctic Frontier - the company contracted to take us out. We had a fantastic time... truly memorable just not for the Northern Lights, which showed up spectacularly, but also for the camera equipment and tuition provided, and the hints and tips on how best to capture the northern lights. And best of all, homemade brownies and hot fruit juice to warm us all up after several hours staring up at the sky! This was a great experience and one we'll never forget! Highly recommended!

What is the difference between ‘Aurora Chase’ and ‘Aurora Base Camp’?
Juha & Kate
sirkka2 contributions
Aurora Base Camp provides our guests with easy access to a great location for seeing and photographing the aurora. It provides people with a comfortable base (a traditional Finnish lakeside cottage) for seeing the aurora in the heart of the National Park. Aurora Base Camp is ideal for young children and people with access issues. We recommend guests bring their own cameras and tripods with them to photograph the aurora. The Aurora Base Camp is 3 hours long.
The Aurora Chase is a more dynamic way of seeing and photographing the aurora. We are mobile, and we will always go to the locations with the best chance of catching the aurora on any given evening. We provide you with all the necessary camera equipment, professional instruction, extra clothing and a memory card for you to take home with your pictures on them. Group size is limited to 8 people and we travel in a comfortable Mercedes van/minibus. The Aurora Chase is at least 4 hours long.
And of course, our homemade chocolate brownies and berry juice are available on both the Aurora Base Camp and Aurora Chase.

Hi, can you tell me if this tour is suitable for a 6 year old??
Juha & Kate
sirkka2 contributions
We recommend the Aurora Chase for 12 years plus. However, young children have been a part of the tour with prior arrangement. It's best to contact us via email, and we can arrange a tour to suit your needs.
Regards, Juha and Kate.

Hi
Can you advise the cost of the Aurora Chase Tour for 2 adults in Feb. Only 1 camera needed
Juha & Kate
sirkka2 contributions
A place on the Aurora Chase for the 2017/18 season is 165€ per person, with or without the use of our equipment. Included in the price is the use of camera, tripod, remote control, arctic suits and winter boots. The SD memory card is yours to keep. The use of equipment is recommended but not essential.

Hi Victoria! Yes, we take bookings for singles and if we only have one person on the tour we still 'Chase' the aurora. Our pick up point is at Zero Point, in Levi. See you soon!
