We went on the Aurora Camp tour with Arctic Frontier and it was completely brilliant. We can’t recommend it highly enough. Our hotel booked the tour for us and we didn’t realise until we arrived that they lend everyone a camera and teach you how to photograph the northern lights - it’s probably not what we would have chosen from reading the description but we were so glad we went! They have made it really accessible for people who know nothing about photography by doing the settings and effectively setting up the camera so all you have to do is press one button twice to take a photo. It was such fun and really brought the experience to life to take photos with proper equipment. James, who took us on our tour, was friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. Arctic Frontier provide extra snow gear so we were a good temperature and James also gave us tea and brownies in a cabin by the lake to warm us up halfway through. We were only in the area for two nights and we enjoyed it so much that we considered going back on this tour on our second night. Highly recommend!!

We spent nearly 2 weeks in late November in the frozen ‘winter wonderland’ of arctic Finland and it was the highlight of our three months away. Kate and Juha were the most wonderful hosts who provided us with a truly unique experience in this beautiful part of the world - delicious foraged food, net-fishing beneath the frozen lake, cosy ‘picnics’ in forest cabins while exploring national parks, and of course the northern lights to top it all off. We were very fortunate to be able to stay in Kate and Juha’s cabin with a traditional Finnish sauna adding to the whole winter arctic ambience. We would highly recommend Arctic Frontier’s Aurora Escape in their log cabin by the lake to make the most of the landscape, culture and northern lights. I wouldn’t hesitate to return again - perhaps when this arctic landscape is in all its greenery.

Context: I've been in Lapland before in the previous winter, during a period with worse weather conditions for northern lights than now and back then I've taken two northern lights chases from two different companies. Back then I've finally managed to see some weak northern lights in both chases and took a few photos with my camera, but I have to say that all the other tourists that came with us in the van were pretty unhappy with the experience. Why? Because they expected to see bright colourful northern lights with their eyes and that they could take photos of them with their phones. Actual review of Arctic Frontier: I really appreciate the way Arctic Frontier setup this experience for their clients. Each tourist gets a basic DSLR (with all the settings pre-made), with a basic kit lens (with the focus ring and zoom ring fixed with tape at good values), with a very good Manfrotto tripod and also a remote trigger. They quickly introduce the equipment to you in their studio so you'll know how to quickly take photos of the northern lights and even selfies. That should be the number one selling point for this experience. The second one is that they own a private property on a frozen lake (where you have amazing 360 degrees views of the sky), with a small cabin where they make a fire for you to enjoy while eating some brownies and drinking hot juice. Don't get me wrong, the other companies I've been with also had snacks and warm drinks, but you consumed them in the cold outside or in the car and they also didn't have such a nice private place for themselves. These two benefits, plus the amazing friendly guide, James, make this totally worth your money and your time. Despite starting the evening with a few clouds, we've managed to see strong moving northern lights above the lake I've mentioned and all the clients seemed happy with the experience and the pictures they've captured (btw, you get to keep the memory card you've used). I've came with my own camera and James helped me with a tripod. He also took care of all the others if they had any questions on the field about their camera. He also gave us headlamps and taught us to make light paintings in our photos. I totally recommend them!

A frozen forest on a frozen lake – it was so beautiful and eerily silent when we arrived at the Aurora Base Camp. A few days of exploring the area made us realise that life was there – the Arctic birds, the animal prints and the fish - all showed us another side of an Arctic winter. The icing on the cake was an occasional display of Northern Lights right on our doorstep! For this we were well equipped with clothing, cameras and instructions for getting good Aurora photos. Our hosts Juha and Kate gave us a true taste of an Arctic winter without the discomfort. Our home in a traditional Finnish log cabin was a warm and cosy base from which to explore local national parks, an old fishing village and ski resorts or simply to relax by the fire with a good book. A tour with Kate highlighting the unique history and culture of the local area was a highlight that should not be missed. We left satisfied but yearning for more – perhaps we should go back when the snow has melted, trees uncovered and fells ready for walking and foraging. Thanks so much Kate and Juha, you haven’t seen the last of us!

We did the aurora chase and it was the highlight of our holiday! Juha picked us up by zero point in Levi, it was just myself and my partner and 5 others, a nice small group. We went back to the studio to layer up - I borrowed a thermal snow suite which I would recommend if you feel the cold like me. They also have boots and gloves if you need them. Juha explained how to use the cameras, they were set up with remotes which are a lot easier to use when you’ve got your gloves on! Then we went out to their cabin on the lake - it’s about 40 minutes outside of Levi, so you get away from the town lights. Such an amazing location, it was so peaceful and nobody else around and nothing to interrupt your view of the skies. They had a fire in the cabin and hot berry juice and brownies - yum! We were so, so lucky - we saw the northern lights and had the most amazing display and got some great photos! Juha was so good with tips for photos and where to see the best lights - he clearly knows what he’s on about and was so excited to make sure we all got good photos. I would absolutely recommend this trip, I know you can’t control the weather but I really believe Juha and the team want to make sure you have the best chance of seeing the lights and getting some photos to take home with you. Thank you so much!

It was a great night. The aurora forecast was only a Kp2 that night, but we were blessed with a magnificent show. And we love our private lakeside location - it's one of the best places to see the aurora. And eat brownies (of course) . Looks like you got some great pics. Kind regards, Juha and Kate.
