If I remember correctly this trail is marked as hard but for someone in their early 30's whose fit, I'd say it was more on the intermediate scale. I had read reviews before going and decided not to do the loop. We went up to the top of the mountain and came back the same way. Total trip was probably 2.5 hours with lots of stops for pictures and resting at the top of the mountain for about 15-20 minutes. It wasn't buggy and didn't have many people like some of the other trails.

After a short drive off the main highway we parked and set off on the round trip of approx 7.5km. After a start on a well marked shingle pathway after a approx 1.5km the climb takes on a different element with a combination of rocks, tree roots and wooden steps taking over the terrain. The pathway is well marked and after a couple of false hopes we eventually reached the top to enjoy stunning views across the area. The descent follows a track with a few rocky areas to negotiate but the walk was well worth making and leads back to the car park.

I have not done much hiking in the Cabot trail (only 4) but this one was my favorite. A fair challenge and a nice view on top. I have done the loop but would recommend just to do the viewpoint and back as the rest of the loop is a trail apparently accessible by car and there is no viewpoints. My girlfriend and I completed the loop in 2 hours but our pace is (I believe) a little bit faster than average. -Marc

Went up the steep but excellent main trail. Well worth the effort for the views at the top. We took the fire road down, which was uneventful and we did not see wildlife (or other people). This was among our favourite hikes.
