Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was a fascinating visit for us. The houses are all so beautifully presented and curated with objects that give you a real feel for what life was like here. All the houses can be visited so you need 1-2 hours here to do it justice. Highly recommended.

We use to come here for always rainy, muddy school trips. It was always more of a suffering than experience. It changed a lot in a good way. You can see how our ancestors lived hundred years ago. Kid friendly.

Together with the castle makes an amazing view of Zamagurie village. Together - makes the picture of proper village. Even if the museum is closed, it is good to come here for just having the view on the perfect exxample of Zamagurie village.
The most known is of course, orthodox church from Matysova, with completed iconostasis and climate of old church... But here you can find also the school from the beginning of century, a few houses with interiors from specific region.
And between... are tiny gardens, sheep and cows, and vegetable gardens - this is absolutely self existing village - you can have the feeling that it was build as an support for the castle (it is true, but proper village has been build much neerer... there were now the town is existing).
1 day is minimum to spend here...

Buy combined ticket for castle and village museum and reserve at least 3 hours from your day for the visit. In the village museum dogs are allowed, as long as they are on the leash.

Our visit in the open-air-museum was in the rain, but we are not from sugar so ... we did it ;) There are huts with equipment, Greek-Catholic church, carpentry workshop, smithy, mill ... everything is surrounded by greenery with a view on the castle.

Very nice place for family and friends. Ability to see many different houses - old traditional village, very good for schooling of our children, nice examples for discovery of older times - Good price for tickets and map available.

Slovakia has rich folklore tradition, perserved old traditional villages and a lots of museums and skanzens where you could discovered the world of past centuries. Skanzen in Stara Lubovna is one of the best ones, where you could see a plenty of different log cottages, houses, school and even a churcg completelly made of woods from local area. First time I visited this skanzen in year 2008, and had to get visit again in year 2017. Together with castle and mediaeval camp makes a great place where you could spend a whole day or, at least, an afternoon.

Nice old preserved village. But what is typical for such a village is that there is little to do. Can be easily combined with the castle a little further away.
