This is a lovely, little, historical house. The house is old and very well restored. It has three different rooms that tell the history of Mr. Antonio Ricaurte and how his immolation prevent it the Spaniards from reconquering Colombia. It is managed by the Colombian airforce.

The space is very clean, it is in front of a very nice square, in a peaceful area of town. It opens for a few hours in am and pm. It does not open every day. It is free. It is walking distance from many other historical sites.

Only open a few days each week, this museum is small but free. In addition to info about Ricaurte, there is additional info about the military...and airplanes.

Very interesting and educational displays on the history of Colombia. Especially enjoyed reading the bill of rights that Antonio wrote.

Slightly out of the main tourist area, this charming house and garden are interesting for their explanation for the part played by Ricaurte in the war of Independence. Set aside 20 minutes and you will enjoy the tranquillity for free.

This museum is devoted to national hero Antonio Ricaurte. The museum is small but has interesting things, a nice garden and nice guides. The entrance is free and you are allowed to take pictures (without flash)

House of Colombian hero Antonio Ricaurte. You can see amazing garden, full of flowers, courtyard and his house. Good idea to see how it was to live there in XVIII century. Several rooms shows you lifestyle and part of modern history of Colombia based on his life.

Antonio Ricaurte was a captain during the Independence War. He sacrificed himself at the Battle of San Mateo in Venezuela by blowing up a huge supply of munitions to prevent the Spanish from capturing them. This is his birthplace. His heroism is a symbol for the Colombian Air Force - it's first plane was named after him. Besides historical artifacts from his birthplace the house also includes a small collection of memorabilia and information from both the Colombian and Venezuelan Air Forces. Admission is free - the museum is run by the Colombian Air Force. This house/museum also has the largest and best gardens of any of the house/museums in Villa de Leyva. That itself makes it worth a visit. There is a statue of Ricaurte in the little plaza in front of the museum.
