but only looked, it was nice view over the whole Tonnara, it would be nice and calm place to stay there a couple of days.

A lovely place to spend a family vacation

The Tonnara is a former Tonnara actually, it used to be an industrial site for tuna catch and processing and fishermen dwelling. Tonnara was a very peculiar way to catchup fish actually, way too sophisticated to have survived, so the site was since long abandoned.
Now the historic 18 cent buildings were reconstructed into a pleasant gated community with individual appartments of the town-house type. Each of them has a sea view, a small garden for meals outside and relax time and a barbecue area. Maybe 2,5 dozens of apartments. In October we saw neighbors two or three times in a week. In the summer months it may be more lively.
The appartments are designed and furnished in a smart modern way and will easily fit a family with 2 adults and 3 kids (like us). I guess the bedding and showers vary from apartment to apartment. Ours had a shower and two toilets, one master bedroom, one kids room with two single beds and an extra bed in the open space on the second floor.
The community has lawns and gardening and is cleaned daily. The maintenance workers are resident here.
The great thing is that the site is standing on an ancient dune with a scenic view of a completely empty beach. It is a 5 minutes walk from your garden to the sand (stairway). The beach is astonishing and all yours. There’s a small beach cafe only open in summer season before end October serving drinks and basic food. Nothing fancy, but it has a pleasant atmosphere.
There are several excellent hikes which you can start directly from the site, doable with school kids, no strollers. They are panoramic and not challenging in terms of elevation.
There is a nuregha archeological site just two kms from Tonnara. Not as impressive as Su Noraxi, but still a very good one. The towns nearby are a bit boring, and food shopping was not excellent (although there is a supermarket just minutes of driving from Tonnara). We went to bigger towns for excellent meat/fish shopping and restos.
Everybody has to sort waste which is a bit tricky as you face the two-page long instructions on which day you dispose of what and in what bag color. But it is very doable.
If we were to find faults: the site is autonomous so the tap water is desalinated (you can feel it salty). The shower was a bit weak and noisy because the drains were operated by an electric pump. Not enough hot water for the whole family to take shower in one shot.

A dream of a place
Jul 2016 • Family
We found this place when I became tired of always renting the same apartment on the Costa Smeralda. Here we found something that was the real Sardinia. The beach is used mainly by local people, their kids play in the water as our kids play in the fields. It's a healthy life, beach at weekends, fresh fish whenever possible. A simple life as well.
There is basically NOTHING in Porto Paglia - NO restaurants, NO discotheques, NO bars, NO shops - no nothing! It is peace, it is quiet, it is living close to the sea. What the photo does not show is that this village is on top of a Cliff. My daughter-in-law counted 132 steps from the beach up to the apartment!! So you get a free work-out as well! Please don't come in your hordes....

Heaven on Earth

We first came to this place 4 years ago when my husband agreed to go somewhere else on Sardinia so long as I could find him somewhere that was just 4 steps from the beach. Well, in the end it was 10 but he's never complained. The beach must be 2-3 kms long, all yellow sand. The sea can go from calm as a millpond to a roaring monster, all depending on the winds. It can be crowded at the weekend when the locals flood to the beach, or empty as it is now so that we laugh and say we have the entire swimming pool to ourselves.
