Easy to arrive by walking or parking nearby but if walking prepare for a long interesting walk through 400 meters long arcade with 142 arches built by the Capuchin friars in the XVII century, rebuilt/modified throughout the centuries. This is an old fish factory that specializes in marinated anchovies and smoked eel still operating but in a much reduced scale because fish nowadays is not abundant like in the old days. Cheap entrance ticket, can see the rooms where fish is processed, tools used and a old film that shows the old traditional process. The river girl (1955 film) was filmed here, reason why Ms. Loren image is omnipresent.

La Manifattura dei Marinati offers a very interesting overview of the fish processing industry in Comacchio. There is also a small shop where you can buy local products and souvenirs.

Working Industrial Museum
May 2017 • Friends
Fascinating educational displays, and documentary film of eel harvesting, drying and smoking process in the Po Delta. Set in the industrial factory presently used today, integration with the town's history, and the factory marketing by Sophia Loren.

This museum tells the story of the town's historic link with eels and the movies upstairs vividly tell the story.

Very well curated and well presented piece of industrial history

We visited this during the eel festival and were impressed with the displays and the quality of the restoration work. It was particularly brought to life by the showing of an old black and white documentary on the eel harvesting and a clip from a 1954 Sophia Loren movie actually filmed inside the factory. She was a very glamorous fish worker!
They also had a fine display of old photographs.

really interesting museum, but with little English langauge interpretation
May 2015 • Couples
a worthwhile place to visit, with much of interest, but the interpretation is patchy, and almost all in Italian, so it helps a lot if you already have some understanding of the eel industry that thrived in the Po Delta (or if you can read Italian!). Even without this, there are many interesting exhibits.

Take the boat tour instead.
May 2015 • Couples
Very limited exhibits, but admission was cheap. Boat tour was more descriptive even if the eel processing facility was a mock up.

a fishy tale

a great display of items used in the eel catching days out on the lagoon. The submerged boats are so ingenious. A work in progress at the present

Interesting and unusual
Sep 2013 • Couples
Sounds like a fishy tale but this museum is very good. Quite how they make enough money to support the large displays and building I can't imagine but we enjoyed the morning there.
