A walk around the Grosser Arbersee is our all time favourite when visit the Bavarian Forest. The walk is mostly on flat ground and along plankwalks at the end of the lake. There are great photo opportunities at any time of the year. Parking fee for cars is Euro 3.00. Avoid weekends during the major public holidays as parking can get crowded. The walk itself around the lake takes about one hour and one cannot get lost as the path is wide and just winds around the lake.

The lake is located at the foot of the Arber Mountain. It can easily be reached from Bodenmais by bus. You can take a stroll around the lake and in the summer boats can be rented. There is also a cafe/restaurant where you can try some local food.

We originally intended to go up the Grosser Arber in the cable car, but it was unfortunately closed... So we drove a couple of minutes to the Grosser Arbersee for a walk around the lake. What a great decision! Although it was already mid-April, the lake was still partly frozen and there was snow all around, great for the kids. It was a really nice walk through the woods alongside the frozen lake, and not strenuous for the older and younger members of our party. If you're in the area, I highly recommend stopping here.

Visiting Abesee in October, the day was rather cold. There was a reconstruction going on on the "original" Aberseehouse, that spoiled the view and the silence a bit. Before heading for the walk, we had a nice lunch in the Aberseehouse. The path leads around the like, but we didn't go all way around, considering there were small children in our group. Despite that, as far as we went, it was i nice stroll.
