Very interesting

The caretaker was very helpful and informative. He also sold us a booklet which related the 1820 Settlers story through the eyes of their clerics; a very interesting read

Very nice church, allot of historical value. It is also a beautiful church building, the grave stones are also very interesting. Easy to find and worth a visit, I just regret not entering the church.

It was raining and the church was locked One can phone somebody for access but in the bad weather we did not bother. The church yard and gravestones would have warranted more time had the weather been better.

The church needs to be locked as protection against vandals, we are sorry you could not access the church itself. The graveyard, weather permitting, is also a great place to experience the history of the little village More

This building was signposted and easy to find. Although building proceeded in fits and starts during the Frontier Wars, it was only consecrated by Bishop Gray in 1848. Unlike so many churches commissioned and consecrated by Bishop Gray during this time, his wife, Sophia was not responsible for the design, that honour falling on Major Mitchel. Like so many of... We are sorry you could not get access, there is a telephone number for the curator. Obviously the church cannot be left open for fear of vandals More

What a nice church. We were pleasantly welcome by an elderly gentleman who gave us a mini tour of the church. He explained so much about the history of this beautiful church. A must see if you are in the area. A lot of history in this church which is very interesting.

Thank you for the review Kerry, there is a small committee of volunteers who use limited resources to maintain the "unmanned" heritage sites in Bathurst. Our first project was the Bradshaws Mill which we restored to the point where we now have an operating wheel and a wonderful asset and attraction. Our next project is the Toposcope which, as you... This is an ancient 1820 Settler Church- on a hill overlooking Bathurst in the Eastern Cape. A wee bit run down, but very peaceful and informative if one is looking at history- and awe-inspiring too- as the area is so old, and looking at the gravestones, one is immediately aware of the anguish, yet, bravery of the old settlers. Well... More

This is a welcoming church if you are around on a Sunday to join in the service. Part of the 1820's tradition is kept alive by the small country church(s) found in this area.

We stopped here by chance, and so glad we did. The church is a hidden gem in the village. This church is also so interesting. We had the caretaker take us through the church and provide us with a lot of history. You soon find out just how significant the place is! It's all about the first British settlers that... More

A bit off the beaten track, but this pretty old church is well worth a visit. The old roof beams give it a lovely country feel, the graveyard is interesting to look round, and there was an on-site guide seemingly happy to answer questions forever. It was an hour and a half before the last of our party emerged, so... More
