Parked easily and walked up through the old moat to the entrance. OK so far. Exterior very picturesque but on entering the 'Domaine' we were stopped by a fancy entry desk. €18 and you can see the art collection. OK, so what will we see? Concept art. OK, so what is it? Here are some very small B&W pics of... More

Don't visit this chateau expecting a fully furnished home. It's a beautiful building and well situated with fine views over the Loire. When we visited it housed an interesting art exhibition. But the rooms are completely bare. Be aware!

If you understand, appreciate and enjoy contemporary art, your visit may well be wothwhile. If not, visit somewhere else instead and learn the history of this chateau from published material. Only a couple of small areas are left in natural stone, possibly because there is a hint of colour or drawing there but there is no explanation so visitors remain... More

Only a few rooms furnished in a historical setting, the majority is given over to a modern art exhibition that is interesting but challenging if modern art is not your thing. The "mirror exhibition" is good and understandable, The "Air Con Room" - Well what can I say? An Air-con unit in the corner of a small room is art?... More

We visited this castle based on a review in our elderly guidebook. It's changed quite a lot, and although it's still beautiful there is little of historical interest to see now. Instead, it's become an art gallery, with two exhibitions of modern art which were of limited interest to us.

This chateau is a classic for location and architecture. In the last year, the contents have been almost totally replaced by an art and language exhibition with with almost all rooms painted white to better show off the works. If you like that sort of thing, you are in for a treat, but if you like the more traditional chateau... More

I've rated this poor because we were disappointed - we thought we were visiting a castle but it's actually an art gallery. Only go if you like art. If you like contemporary art you'll have a great time, if you want a castle, choose from one of the others in this region. Note - on the website for this chateau... More

We visited the Chateau de Monstoreau last week with friends. The Chateau is placed right at the side of the Loire River - very picturesque. It has a modern visitor centre at the rear and cos about 9 Euros for each adult. It has a lovely courtyard and the property itself is lovely inside showing. There is no furniture like... More

Montsoreau is situated in a beautiful village and has a panoramic view over the Loire. Empty and neglected until quite recently, it has now been restored and, as of April 2016, houses the collection of Philippe Meaille, who is clearly a big fan of conceptual art. I'm not, to be honest, but there is something very pleasing and intriguing about... More
