Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I can't add too much to the other reviewers but I will add I would avoid this location during busy tourist season. It's a one way road where you pull over to let others pass and as the village is small, it may get annoying quickly if many people are already there.

This is a charming village to see up in the hills.

Crooks at every corner. You pay parking, but no one else does. You pay entrance, but then at every house there is a crook telling you that you need to pay more. One single miserable uphill street with nothing to see ( “private” houses or stands with crooks trying to take more of your money), and more cars than in my city. Avoid!

Beautiful authentic village with wooden houses, site protected by UNESCO. To emter the village, you pay 2€ and 1€ for parking. There is an open exhibition in one of the houses (shephard’s house), some nice paintings in a small church and also a nice farm. I think it’s a very nice spot for a small trip, definitely worth seeing how people lived previously.

Worth the visit. Beautiful nature around the village and it's interesting to see how people used to live in the past. The open farm is fun for kids especially.

We were travelling through Slovakia with motorbikes and put Vlkolinec on our road book. Very nice village (better to visit outside of holiday period) with typical wood houses in a wonderful landscape.

Beautiful place, protected by UNESCO with residents living in it as normal.
Great to wander around and think about what life would have been like in the village a hundred or so years ago.
One of the cottages is a small museum fitted out as it would have been many years ago.
But don't expect to wander in and out of the other houses, as they are people's homes.
It's a couple of Euro for the car park, and another couple of Euro for the museum. But if for some reason you are unwilling to part with a couple of Euro for the museum, you can wander the village for free.

The whole area is full of nature - peaceful and fantastic landscapes. The typical medieval settlement with unique houses is authentic and with less commercial business concept. The way to get there is not easy to find. Google maps failed.

We were driving from Žilina towards Levoča and we made a detour to Vlkolinec. It is a very nice village, very well preserved. It was a really wonderful experience walking around an watching those old houses. One of them also houses a little ethno museum.

We drove to Vlkolinec early morning and the scenery was just beautiful & unique. But the Unesco label makes you anticipate something really really unique and indescribable. But I have to admit we were a little disappointed by the look, how the village is preserved. With only 20 original villagers living here, all other houses have been sold to the people who uses the houses as a cottage. You see many cars parked everywhere in the village. Why can’t they park the cars on the parking lot down the informaton? And many hourses are freshly repainted in many odd colors so they don’t go well with the original buildings. I was here before 25 years ago and back then the place was much better & charmimg place. This village turned into the mere tourist attraction I would say it’s gotten worse. But after all it is definitely worth a visit and I recommend it but I leave the place with a bit of sad feeling.
