Every time we come here, it never changes. It's great to see that. Thursday's markets are always a happy melange of locals and tourists alike. Highlights include open-air performances and friendly cats.

Monpazier is probably the most attractive of the small bastide towns in this area(although we also like nearby Beaufort which is almost free of visitors). Marrket days bring the historic square to life and the market is a good mix of local produce, basics and...More

This is a stunning little bastide town. Pretty, nice shops (love the ceramics shop particularly), lovely cafes and an artisan gelateria.

A lovely Bastide town, fully of history and charm, and make sure you give yourself enough time to take everything in.

Of all the town's we have visited in the area this is our favourite. Stunning medical buildings, interesting shops and artisan workshops and lots of places to eat. Market day is Thursday.

We got to this town quite early on a weekday in May and there were not many tourists. The parking was easy and the catfish were jumpin' (just kidding). Any way we had the feeling the town was ours so while my wife strolled around...More

If you want to appreciate a French bastide, this is the one. As others have said, it's a beautifully preserved village, but it's more than that. Bastides are fortified towns of the Middle Ages, mostly in southern France, with a large central main square surrounded...More
