About
It is a spacious building erected in 1771 by the British in the old Cala Corb barracks, in Es Castell. The building that housed over time a British barracks, the Menorca Military Hospital, the Artillery Academy, the Costa de Menorca Regiment and currently the Menorca Military Museum. The military museum has free entry and covers 3 large floors.
Fascinating artifacts from 22 centuries with good explanations
The manual computers for gun ranging were amazing
The air raid shelters way down below were eerie with bombing sounds
Excellent facilities and clean toilets
*** HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ***

Popped into this museum today as the weather was very showery. The man greeted us at the door and was really helpful showing us the basic set up and then he put a short video on for us with subtitles. We could then wander around at our leisure which we did for a couple of hours. Really interesting place. Some of the models were little works of art and someone has spent a lot of time on them. I would recommend this hidden gem if you find yourself in the area and wanting something more than just sunbathing for a few hours. It is a free museum but donations are welcome.

It was so hot one day we dived into this museum not far from our hotel on the edge of the main square in Es Castell. It is free but accepts donations , please donate it is well worth it. The lady at the entrance explained the set up and the different rooms and played us a short video with English subtitles. We spent a good hour looking at the exhibits and visiting the under ground air raid shelter. Based in a former army barracks , covering 2 floors it explains the importance Minorca had as a military base and explained all about the forts you can see on the islands in the harbour. Well worth a visit.

We ended up visiting the museum twice as there was so much to see. Spread over two floors, the museum covers Menorca's military history, which stretches back to Roman times and earlier. It's packed full of artefacts, prints and photographs. Information panels are in English and there is an introductory video which is well worth watching. Don't miss the underground air raid shelter (we didn't spot it on our first visit). Currently the museum is open Mon-Fri from 10am-1pm although this changes soon - check the website for more information. Admission is free, although we made a donation. Military history wouldn't normally be something that would appeal to me, but there is lots more to see besides that. Well worth a visit.

What a gem of a museum been meaning to visit this place every time I holiday in Es Castell .
So my entrance fee cost 4 euro ,I think over 65's it would cost 2 euro .
I spent two and half hours walking around looking at all the exhibits .
I was the only person in there on my visit .
If you are in the area this place is a not to be missed .

A very interesting place to spend a few hours. There is a great deal to see and even a reduction for OAP's. At 2E it was extremely good value. We were even given a glossy brochure and details of other places of military interest.

Locate in the main square of Es Castell the entrance is via a door with a Cannon mounted vertically on the wall, the day we went that door was closed so the entrance was further along, we did not think we would be in there for very long but we spend nearly 2 hours walking round, there is a lot to see with written explanations by the exhibits, there are toilets in side as well as a video show, well worth the 2 euro entrance fee

Sadly I travelled to Es Castell four days out of a weeks holiday during opening times and found it closed every time. Having heard a great deal about it from a close friend, I was really looking forward to it and you can imagine my frustration and disappointment in equal measure. I gave it 3 star as apparently the exhibits are worth going to see.
