I went to this place by boat in a guided tour with a great tour guide named Gil Serique. We were able to see a lot of the region's fauna and flora. Great trip close to the city.

Maica lake is east of Santarem (45m)by boat. At the entrance good place for watching pink dolphins. Also lots of birds like hoatzins and water birds. Great for Three-toed sloths. From February to August one can explore forest islands by canoe
