Although the Basilica can be seen for miles it is not on the regular tourist beat. The two towers are of a different height as the north spire was adapted to house a telegraph tower in 1792. The exterior is extravagant gothis but the interior is more sober. Well worth a detour to visit.

Driving into Chalons-en-Champagne we immediately pulled over when we spotted this beautiful gothic church. It was absolutely empty and still. It is a gorgeous building and inside there are some beautiful statues.

We went out of our way to see this masterpiece, and we were rewarded with an unforgettable experience. The church itself, a major stop on the Camino de Santiago for centuries, still keeps a special statue of the Madonna that was revered for many generations. But it is the outside of the church that is so remarkable, with gargoyles that... More

Our Lady late-Gothic sanctuary with not-so-giant but beautiful interior and intriguing gargoyles outside.

The most gruesome and fantastical gargoyles you'll see. The church has two spires, one shorter than the other which gives it a special character.

If you are in the area you must not miss this church. It was built in one go at the end of the 15th and beginning of the 16th centuries, to the very highest standard of ornamentation and craftsmanship - lovely flamboyant gothic and a touch of renaissance. There is an important and eerily realistic mise au tombeau.

An extraordinarily lavish building with a great history. The is visible from a great distance and the carving externally is outstanding
