Don't expect a McDonald's but expect to pay over £5 for one ice-cream
Jun 2021 • Family
On Sunday 13/06/21 I paid a visit to Bala lake, when we arrived the sun was cracking the flags and it seemed lovely but as the day proceeded I noticed something very worrying, as my friends and family where munching down on a barbecue I googled the directions to the nearest McDonald's, to my surprise the closest one was 23 miles away is it me or does this seem very worrying and the some sort of a food Mafia in bala what prevents decent takeaways from opening, people need to remember that McDonald's is a universal restaurant and there is something for everybody there so I'm very disappointed that the food mafia has prevented the McDonald's from opening 😥

Perfect for adventurous

We were visiting on a holiday and enjoy kayaking. So we visited Lake Bala and were not disappointed, the water is amazing and there's so much of it to explore. We only did roughly a quarter of the lake but the views are incredible. Can be very busy but there is ample parking.

Astounding Size!
May 2021
I came here as a very young child, but still I could not get over the enormous size and expanse of the lake. On a sunny bank holiday day it was very busy, with lots of people taking in the weather and many engaging in various watersports. Space was at a premium around the main areas, as was parking but the lake is so big that if you look around you can find a spot. If you Loke to walk then a walk around the lake will certainly feed most appetites but you could also take the Bala Railway for some superb views. With the stunning mountain scenery surrounding the lake you really do feel as though you are back to nature here..... a welcome break from Lockdown!

All depends on your route......
Apr 2021 • Friends
We circumnavigated the whole lake starting in Bala by the Leisure Centre anti-clockwise. There is a cycle/footpath for much of the way next to the busy A494 road towards Llanuwchlyn. But beware - the cycle/footpath ends by Hen Glanllyn campsite. Thereafter it was a somewhat unpleasant walk towards oncoming traffic for at least a mile before picking up a footpath parallel to the road into Llanuwchlyn, where there is a decent pub - Yr Eagles. The route back to Bala is along the quiet B4403 which runs parallel to the Bala Lake Railway. In parts this walk back with marred by gangs of motorcyclists in double figures roaring past.

Lake Bala (Tegid)
Sep 2020 • Couples
Had a really nice relaxing walk part way around Lake Bala in the late autumn sunshine.
Parked for free on the road at the north side of the lake after a view filled drive over from Lake Vyrnwy.
Stunning mountain scenery surrounds this massive body of water with wild swimming and paddle boarding activities.
There is a cafe and toilet facilities so whether it's walking the dog or getting some fresh air there's plenty to see at this beauty spot.

Beautiful lake and surroundings
Sep 2020
Another hot sunny day, enjoyed sitting on grass watching boats and windsurfers etc.. Nice cafe on site, boat hire and wet suits for hire.
We had a wander around town, worth a wander, and had an interesting drive round the lake.

Great egg & chips!
Sep 2020 • Couples
Great little cafe next to Bala Lake. No tables inside really have a view of the lake but never mind plenty of time to enjoy that. The egg and chips and sausage & chips were great, runny eggs, plenty of chips and 2 nice coffees, all just right for a chilly visit to this lovely part of Wales.

Walk along the lake and get the train back.
Sep 2020 • Couples
Several choices of walking routes along the lake and it is a great idea to walk one way and then get the train back to Bala. There is a £20 minimum fee on the railway.

Great day picnic and water fun

The Lake has beautiful views and is great for water sports. The Bala adventure and water sports staff were really friendly. We hired kayaks and paddle boards enjoying our experience on the water.

walk around the lake
Sep 2020
fancied a day out not to far away, and on sat night said wed go walking along bala lake. Info on goggle re the walk was poor imo , but still went there the following morning, had a breakfast in bala itself. then parked in the lakes car park, £ 3 for 4 hours . £ 6 for full day., we paid £3 but im sure a lot didnt pay at all, anyway brisk walk towards the railway station nice and easy and then we didnt have much clue but went along the b road which nearly all the way followed the railway line. lovely walk , but lot of motor bikes, cyclist, cars tractors on the road, so not for everyone, but it was quite safe for us , we passed bala lake hotel , which looked lovely , and half way there was some toilets and parking/ picnic spot which was nice, and on we continued on the b road , wed gone around 2hrs plus when we reached llanuwchllyn and went to the station , for the train back, i was tired but i suppose we could have walked along the a road , or back from where we came, but had tea and carrot cake in the station and got a train back, (we hadnt booked online so we were lucky there was room for 2 of us, it actually cost £22 one way inc the masks. thoroughly enjoyed the day and feel entitled to my glass of red wine now, we also had a lovely ice cream in the loch cafe by the lake.
