Overview
More
Open Gardens and Woodland Playground . Caerau Uchaf has the highest private garden open to the public in North Wales at over 1000 ft. We are Toby and Stephanie Hickish, who started building the gardens from scratch in 1994. They were a sideline to our garden design business and have been added to over the years. The cafe has become a significant part of the whole thing and we aim to produce really good home cooked lunches as well as Stephanie's great cakes. We also sell gifts and plants. Caerau Gardens and Cafe is open from Thursdays to Monday’s incl. from 10.00am until 5.00 pm. Dogs are welcome, we have two of our own who will willingly show you around the gardens. There is plenty of space to explore and quite a few unusual plants. Up in the woodland there is a wooden fort and a zip wire. Children of all ages can spend hours creating and enjoying their own games. If the weather is cooler we have a large room with a wood burner where you can enjoy great coffee and lovely food!

We've had a holiday home in Bala all summer and only came across this place this last weekend. What a shame - it's the most wonderful find! Although it's the end of the season and gardens are not at their best, we thoroughly enjoyed our...More

I cannot rate this place highly enough. What a special place! The gardens are truly beautiful and plenty of space to explore. I loved the home from home feel that the owners provided. We had afternoon tea and some other bits and bobs which were...More

A fantastic garden with loads to see and a great walk through the woods, I could sit and look over the hills for hours, it's so peaceful. Slightly disappointed by the food from the cafe as it wasn't the best tasting and it was over...More

Thank you for your review, glad you liked the gardens. I do remember you, I believe you had 2 soups at £4.75 each including very fresh homemade bread? I'm sorry you weren't impressed, that always upsets me because we try hard to do lovely food,...More

We were more than happy with our visit and pleased that we made the time to see the gardens before we left Bala. Even our teenage son (less than eager to see another garden) had a blast jumping on the sunken trampoline and exploring the...More

This is not the usual formal garden (we had just come from Chirk Castle), but a very personal one developed over 20 + years by Toby and Stephanie Hichish. Although relatively small it is full of surprises and enjoys fantastic views over Bala and the...More

Thank you very much for your comments, we explained that we had given you an old brochure in fact it was printed in 2010 so that probably explains the £1.50 price hike, we keep family ticket prices down as much as possible and actually, if...More

Surprised by your comments as we and all our other visitors have been delighted with the gardens, they are better than ever this year though they do get a bit woolly as the year goes on. It's a lovely spot though and as private gardens...More
