About
Open from April until October, Gardens and Woodland Playground . Caerau Uchaf has the highest private garden open to the public in North Wales at over 1000 ft. We are Toby and Stephanie Hickish, who started building the gardens from scratch in 1994. They were a sideline to our garden design business and have been added to over the years. The cafe has become a significant part of the whole thing and we aim to produce really good home cooked lunches as well as Stephanie's great cakes. We also sell gifts and plants. Caerau Gardens and Cafe is open from Thursdays to Monday’s incl. from 10.00am until 5.00 pm. Dogs are welcome, we have two of our own who will willingly show you around the gardens. There is plenty of space to explore and quite a few unusual plants. Up in the woodland there is a wooden fort and a zip wire. If the weather is cooler we have a large room with a wood burner where you can enjoy great coffee and lovely food!

Tranquility
Apr 2021 • Couples
Tranquility! I absolutely loved this beautiful place!
Tilly & polly the 2 dogs stole my heart! Even if your not a dog lover I can guarantee these two amazing dogs will change your mind!
We had plans to visit a few places in our visit to Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿, but found ourselves not wanting to leave Caerau Gardens & the pigsty, we had the most beautiful weather that we took advantage of lazy in the hammock
In the gardens with an amazing view & the company of Tilly & Polly who are more than happy to guide you around so you don’t miss any part of there amazing home!
I can still smell the fresh bread we was greeted with & eggs!
The only bad thing was having to leave!

Thank you Toby & Stephanie

Really good gardens and cafe.

Loverly private gardens with glorious views of the surroundings countryside, we booked our visit and enjoyed an amusing time exploring the gardens and looking at the children’s adventure play area, which we knew of grandchildren who would have enjoyed it. There is a cafe onsite that served rally good fair and exceedingly good cakes. A must visit if attractions off the beaten track are for you.

Lovely grub, lovely people

Gardens don't really do it for me, but we knew the place served food and we needed a light lunch after walking nearby. My mushroom soup was clearly made on site, and was as good as it gets; lots of mushroom, well seasoned, really generous portion of homemade bread, big slab of butter. Water offered, which came with ice. Proprietors were really friendly, welcoming people. Nice to find place where simple things are executed well and with a smile.

Our sort of garden
Aug 2020 • Couples
We were blown away by the garden and the work and love which has clearly gone into it. The owners gave us a lovely welcome. We saw before & after pictures & learnt of their very personal reason for taking on such a bold but rewarding project. The sandwiches & cuppa were made with love & served with friendly banter. Just loved our visit & surely will go back . Thank you for being an important part of our day out

Fabulous

What a lovely place to visit. We went twice over a week on route to our holiday destination. We had lunch the first day which was delicious and on the second day a week later we had breakfast which was gorgeous. They are so incredibly friendly and the place itself is beautiful. Sat nestled in the hills, the garden itself it spectacular with fantatsic views, this is a hidden gems. There is a children's play area a Fort in the hill with a zip wire and there is a trampoline sunken into the ground. There is a lovely shop, chickens, geese, birds and wildlife galore. This place is well worth the visit. We loved it so much we booked one of there property's, the pigsty to stay for a short break.

A very warm welcome awaits you and that’s just from the spaniels!
Sep 2019 • Family
If you love visiting gardens you won’t be disappointed as Caerau Gardens is an absolute gem. The gardens themselves are nothing short of amazing, the owners vision, hard work and obvious dedication to their work is heartwarming and shows clearly as you move from one area to another. The owners Spaniels greeted us at the end of the drive and then gave us a guided tour, much to the delight of our own dog!

The cafe serves delicious homemade food, everything from cream teas and cakes to soups, pies and even goat curry! We had the cream teas, courgette soup and sandwiches with runner bean chutney. All lovely and fresh and great value for money.

We stayed for three and a half hours and it was plenty of time to wander gently and have our food. The owners were very friendly, chatty and also very funny, we laughed a lot during our visit 😊

Well worth a visit with or without children, there is a lot for kids to engage with as well as plenty of room for them to burn off some energy. We can’t recommend Caerau Gardens enough!

Keep up the good work, from Ann, Jacqui, Leah and Dave the dog.

Lovely place
Aug 2019 • Family
We visited today and we had a walk around the gardens then we stopped for lunch. We have 3 children. We were made to feel very welcome. We have a very adventurous 2 year old who loves the outdoors she loved this place and she is hard to please, we had the cafe to ourselves which was probably a good thing as 2 of my children are quite loud. My daughter loved the toys dolls house and the piano. My son is in a wheelchair so sometimes it's hard to find a place where we can fit or that he can enjoy but he had fun, even our older girl liked it especially the food, they have said they would like to come back before we go home.
We all enjoyed the food and I have a family of fussy eaters so eating out is always a challenge. The cafe has a lovely old fashioned feel to it very homely.

Amazing views and garden design
Aug 2019 • Family
This is a little gem! Friendly owners and their dogs.

An amazing garden with spectacular views plus homemade light lunches and cakes.

My boys will remember this visit for a longtime - the youngest wanted to take the dog home with him and the oldest loved the zipwire and trampoline.

I appreciated the hours of love and devotion that had gone into creating the garden with its many rooms. I’d love to return!

Thank you for a very memorable afternoon ... and the eggs from the hens for the boys breakfast tomorrow!

Beautiful Gardens, Worth a Visit!
Jul 2019 • Family
We didn't plan to visit here, stumbled across it by mistake. It was definitely worth it - the gardens were beautiful and the children loveddd the adventure playground, zip wire and trampoline overlooking the mountains! Homemade cakes were delicious and we had an excellent cappuccino, too! Owners were friendly and welcoming, just wish we could have spent longer there!
