Not only is this one of the great Federican castles of the area (well-preserved/restored, sensationally large) it is so much more than a collection of walls. It hosts the local art museum (art made by people from Barletta, or art made in Barletta) and that's a fine fine little museum with works from every period after 1400. On top of... More

We arrived on the 4th of May to be told that the inside is under renovations and won't be open for maybe another month. So we just strolled around the outside.

The castle looks great from the outside and the adjusted city park is nice as well. Definitely worth to visit. The castle also have a museum/art gallery with very interesting pieces displayed. Great view from the top and an interesting ground floor/dungeon.

The castle in Barletta is huge and we enjoyed viewing it from the outside by walking the surrounding roads and pathways. If you are an EU citizen or over the age of 65 (and can prove it with a document including photo) you can gain free entry to the castle. We find that castles are best viewed from the outside,... The castle is attractive from the outside. The inside is mostly just a museum. The best part of this site is the outside and will take about 30 minutes at most to see.

This zone of Puglia is well-known for various medieval castles. One of them is located in Barletta. It's approximately 1 hour walk around with a nice view from the top.

this is a great way to spend an hour or two in Barletta. Don't be put off by the woman who has to unlock the upper floor of the museum for you. she obviously does not enjoy her job and sighs and follows you around like a puppy while you look around. I was the only one in the place,... More

Except the castle itself there is not much to see inside. The collection of artifacts is moderate, but still you can see some interesting pieces

I love old castles and this is one of the most wonderful medieval castles I have ever seen. It was built by the Normans and the architecture is fantastic. It originally was surrounded by the sea. Today the moat is dry and the sea is a short distance away. I felt they have tried to maintain the integrity of the... More

If you are fond of castles you can not miss this place. It is interesting to attempt to recreate the medieval atmosphere by projections of images of the era. There is a collection of everyday objects from the nineteenth century, that might attract attention.
