We used the Laber cable car from the Oberammergau side and then took a 2 hour walk down the mountain to Ettal, taking in the occasional teasing glimpses on the way down. Standing eventually in the middle of the monastery slowly prepares you for the...More

A beautiful part of the world. We walked around the Basilica which has a wonderful painted domed ceiling. Definitely worth a coffee and cake in the cafe. Staff were pleasant.

The domed Abbey is beautiful inside and out. The architecture is incredible. The Abbey is also known for their beer, liquors and cheese. There is a restaurant a short walk from the Abbey.

I stumbled upon the Abbey on my way out to see the Linderhof Palace. It will certainly capture your attention from the road! The cathedral is simply stunning and free to enter. The Abbey is also a brewery, winery and distillery. They make great beer...More

It feel like a magical place and despite being the peak of tourist season we felt so serene thereZ the church is just amazing. We bought some of the beer and liqueur made by the monks

We stopped by on our whirlwind day of seeing the 2 Ludwig castles near Fussen, Oberammergau, Wies Church, and Linderhof. Next time, I would probably skip it as I liked the interior of Wies better, but it was definitely worth a quick look inside.

Parking is below the Abby and park and pay. For me the Abby was definitely worth a visit but we only spent about an hour here after seeing Linderhof Palace that was close by.

We visited the abbey during the height of tourist season after an exhausting trip to Neuschwanstein. Unlike Neuschwanstein, we found the abbey to be quiet and relaxing with a wealth of history. Parking cost 2€ for 4 hours and entrance was free. We arrived at...More

We were there at off season also. I think that the brewery is mostly open in late Spring/Summer. There was no tour of the brewery when we were there. There is a small gift shop. You can walk into the church and see the... More
