Together with the lake, one of the characteristic elements of the Garda Trentino landscape is the rock of Arco, dominating the plain of the River Sarca at the point where it widens. Three paths lead to the castle, which was the residence of the Arco Counts in the Middle Ages; they all leave the village and wind through the olive groves in the hills to reach the castle in a few minutes. Beyond the last town-wall is the Prato della Lizza, a green balcony overlooking the Garda Trentino territory at the foot of the three enormous sides of the Torre Grande, the Prigione del Sasso and Sala degli Affreschi, beautifully frescoed with scenes of games of draughts and battles. At the top, the last refuge in the event of siege, stands the Torre Renghera, whose bell, known as the "renga", called the farmfolk to prayer.

We were staying in Limone which was not too far from the castle, and very easy to do on public transport. Arco is a really quaint town and the castle is really stunning. We enjoyed the lovely meandering path up to the castle grounds, and the spectacular views. The track up to the castle is steeper and more rugged.

this isn't your typical castle where you walk in and walk around to see different rooms... you are pretty much outdoors the whole time .. the view is awesome and the walk up is beautiful to walk through olive trees. my kids had a blast walking up. I would avoid going if it is raining as it got slippery on... More

It took a while to climb up to the castle but it was well worth it. A fairly steep climb best tackled with very good walking shoes.

Very steep hill, but a nice cafe is waiting for you and gorgeous views. You do not need to visit and pay entrance fee to the castle. Just go up and enjoy a drink...

Arco Castle  / Walled Town.  Castello di Arco.  12 Sept 2016 An absolute must do is a walk / climb to the Castle,  Cost €3 to €4.00 each, the views are very good.  The signs state that it takes 20 minutes to reach the top, yer, right.  It is a very steep climb but we'll worth ALL the effort.  It... The floating castle ruins is truly breathtaking. Standing on top of a peak and situated almost on a cliff. The castle is like a fairy tale picture book nestled right in the midst of Arco city center. Everytime we pass by the city, I always end up mesmerized.

What a lovely place! From the river, it looks like a rope and harness might be required to visit... and while that would be fun, it is just a twenty minute walk. It is charming: olive groves, stunning views and a nice sense of place. Don't worry about which path you take as long as you are walking upwards on... More

LOVED enjoying beer and prosecco on the gardens at the top!!! Our boy loved to make up battle stories amongst the ruins. Fabulous views over the valley towards Lake Garda.

The Arco Castle is a very well restored and maintained castle ruin. It inspires to imagine how things were many hundreds of years ago. Information is also available in English (which is not a given in Italy). The walk up (20 min) through olive tree gardens is nice as well. Worth the visits if you like history and/or enjoy great... There is a 15min uphill walk to reach the castle entrance, but it is very well maintained with lots of natural shades among the olive plants. The castle is very well preserved and the path leading from castle to other locations has amazing views of Arco and the entire valley! Museum visit is also a good idea if you have... More
