Daikanbo is located on the northern rim of the crater. You can see the breathtaking view from this look out. To go there take a bus named Yamabikogo from JR Kumamoto station and get off at JR Aso station. From Aso station there are two tour buses going to Daikanbo at 10:15 and 14:00. The operation of these tour buses is until January 31,2017.

If you like good-quality twisty roads and nice views, this whole area is good fun! My favourite part was simply driving up and down the mountains.

Good views or surrounding mountains and valley, some walking trails, resaurant and souvernir shop. It's a bit out of the way if you're visiting Aso, but it's a nice stop if you're passing by.

I traveled all over the world but I have never seen such a place! It's like a breathtakingly inspirational scenery like a movie scene. It is not amusing to be registered as a world heritage (or candidate?). You can see that travelers all over the...More

Daikanbo gives a good panoramic view of the town, especially beautiful on a clear day, sunset and even when the clouds descends, covering the town. I have got a fairly clear day and the view was good. The main carpark closes at 5pm and you...More

Aim to go there during sunset . The view of the mountains against the changing light colours made good photo shots. With mt aso closed, this may well be the nearest you can get to it. Drive up is rather windy but the view is...More

Absolutely impressive views over the entire Aso area, including the active volcano. The drive up the mountain is a joy in itself, as the mountains are very steep and surprisingly covered in forest.

I'm really surprised this place is rated No. 1. To be fair the view is nice but I think on the way up to Mt Aso there are many more better view than this. If you really want to have a feel how amazing this...More

Luckily we went on a sunny day, as it truly transformed the fields of yellow grass into something spectacular! It was a wonderful view, but the journey to get there was half the experience. I'd definitely recommend driving there yourself, as it allows you to...More

If you have a clear day this is a spectacular view to see the caldera. No picture can ever capture the magnitude of this sight.
