We were on a tour from Purmamarca to Humahuaca and then to Salta. This day we covered a lot of ground and felt it was a rushed trip as there was so much to see and do. We stopped briefly at the Painter’s Palette to take photos but would have liked to stay longer and see the varying colours during the day. The mountains were still very spectacular.
I would recommend an overnight stay in Humahuaca to have time to explore.

Interesting coloured rock formations in the valley. Worth a visit if in Salta, but if short on time, we would suggest the drive down to Cafayate instead.

Amazing rock formations/strata on the right just before you get to Purmamarca from Salta. You can just stop on the main road and take a pic or two.

Paleta del Pintor are beautiful multicolored rock formations that stand on a mountain.

I stayed 3 nights in this small, quiet hotel a 5 minute walk away from the touristed area. The rooms are clean, and with ample heaters for the cold winter nights. The breakfasts are adequate and coffee superb. The staff is very friendly and helpfull. There is no english spoken that I'm aware of.

The Paleta del Pintor, or Painter's Palette in English, is a beautiful natural landscape located along the route to the other main attractions in Jujuy. If you're on a guided tour, you can assume that a stop at this spot will be included in the route, but if you're exploring the area on your own, you will want to make sure to pay attention so as not to miss it. Even a quick stop here will be worth it, as you will immediately recognize the meaning behind its name. A truly incredible sight to see!
