Wonderful and exciting

The fortress is well taken care of, and situated in beautiful surroundings it makes a highly recommended visit. The history, arcitecture, surroundings and romantic scenery should make it worth a visit for most, either you are a family, couple or like me going solo with a camera. Make sure to also visit the unique buildings just below the fortress.

I've had the pleasure of living for a full year at the fortress several years ago. Revisiting Kongsvinger Fortress today was a very nice experience. I simply love the buildings, the history, and the scenic surroundings. A walk through the old town is also a nice experience. Tip - visit the fortress at sunrise or sunset with that special someone for a romantic walk :-)

Long History of Fortress Powerful along with Exceptional Views
Aug 2018 • Couples
The beautiful fortress at Kongsvinger is well preserved and the museum offers insights into its long history - most recently used during World War II. The history of Norway and relationships with Denmark and Sweden are well presented in the museum. While there is a modest charge for the museum, there is no charge for walking the extensive fortress and enjoying the views and marveling in the engineering. Recently a new hotel and restaurant have opened in the historic buildings. So glad we spent the time at the fortress.

A lovely place to take a small walk before brunch in the close area. If you have nothing to do and are in Kongsvinger, this is a free of charge and really nice place to visit on a sunny day. The view is exellent and the history is coming at you. Well worth a visit. It is clean toilet in the fortress and its lot of small places to sit down and take a rest. You can also buy guided tour or visit the museum.

Beautiful view...

Beautiful view, but for us who decided to not go on a guided tour the buildings did not really give us much (most were closed). The restaurant messed up our order big time.

If you plan to go on the guided tour, it might be worth a visit. If not, then I am not sure if I would bother visiting.

An incredible experience. A historical fortress & fine dining

One of the best meals I have had in a fortress from the 1700s. Blends history with fine dining. The service was exceptional. The meal exquisite and a good wine selection

Fortress with history and great view
Sep 2016 • Business
Fortress with interesting history and great view. Very nice walk toward fortress along old houses. Had guided tour inside the fortress. The guide were with old soldiers uniform and a rifle. Showed us how the old rifle works. There is a museum in the fortress where one can see the history of the fortress. Great view over the town and the river Glomma.

The fortress is really a nice place. It is very relaxing to walk around and look at the view. It is absolutely stunning. It has never been in combat, but have had an important role in the Norwegian history. Really a place to visit.
