Blink and you will miss it

Just beside the road north out of Rosia on the way towards San Gimingnano, and visible from the road. No idea where it leads.

Wonderful

Although we didn't stop at this bridge, it was on one of our main routes from our apartment at Asciaino. A beautiful ancient stone bridge which adds to the beauty and mystery of the Valdemerse country side.

Simple and Fascinating, historical Ponte della Pia
Sep 2016 • Family
This stone bridge stands over the Merse River since way before Dante's times. Pia de' Tolomei after which this bridge is names figures in Dante Alighieri's The Divine Comedy. It is said that when someone was "ostracized" from Siena in medieval times, the bordering limit after which the person would be on their own was after the crossing of this bridge "Ponte della Pia". Dante's character itself crossed into exile. It stands still, still in time and shape. It is worth your while if driving from Rosia to Colonna di Montarenti and over to stop for a moment, walk on this small but fascinating bridge and look around, and feel.

Nice little stop to while away the time

lovely old bridge and a stream with stones to step across, rocks to throw, a quaint little unexpected find. Great way to break a scenic drive and for kids to burn off steam. Good picture opportunity. Only safety note, this is beside what can be a fast road, so keep an eye on the youngsters getting in and out of cars.

You never know what you will find along a scenic road
Jun 2014 • Couples
Taking the scenic route back from Siena, we were thrilled to happen upon this old stone bridge along Rt 73 just south of Rosia. We were able to pull off the road and walk along the creek bed to view the bridge from below. A magical find.
