Hidden Gem Only if Visited in Season!
Oct 2019
We visited Horti Leonini in early October. The gardens by then were well past their peak and probably not worth visiting! The gardens, there are two of them, are constructed on land donated in the 16th Century by the d'Medici family. The lower garden is a classic Italian garden with boxwood hedges surrounding the plantings and a statue of Cosmo d'Medici III installed in the 1950's. The other garden, near the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, is a rose garden.

A must visit for garden enthusiast.

This old garden is claimed to have been designed by Micheal Angelo, at least it was influenced by him. Amazing box woods. Great to see the juxtaposition of ancient and modern art! Very peaceful and though provoking. Worthy of more care than it is getting but at least it is being preserved for us.

Don’t bother
Sep 2019 • Couples
This was a disappointment.
Just a few scraggly boxwoods that need some care. The paths were rutted, the rose garden had a single rose in bloom.

Nice
Jul 2019
It's a very nice park with a few artistic features.

With my coming from a city where there is plenty of that, I didn't find it extra exciting, but I can see this from the locals' perspective, and they should find this space beautiful.

don't miss the ROSE part of the gardens
May 2019
We made the climb from the formal garden of box hedges below to the hilltop
beyond Janus' bust, but we didn't know about the roses and we regret missing
that part of the garden, truly different from the lower area.

Nice italian garden
Feb 2018 • Friends
Now a public park, it used to be an italian styled garden owned by a certain Diomede Leoni as his own private gardens but which he also allowed other people and pilgrims to visit, a quite rare thing for the time. The view from there over the surrounding hills was really nice.

Beautiful formal gardens in the centre of San Quirico Val d’Orcia
Oct 2018 • Couples
This is a beautiful public garden made up of formal box hedges. It’s a haven of tranquillity with really interesting history linked to the wars between Siena and Florence and to the Renaissance (Leonini, who laid the gardens, was a close friend of Michelangelo).
In the heart of San Quirico, with shops and bars next to it.

A Secret (Traditional Italian) Garden
Jun 2018 • Family
A lovely respite while sightseeing through the town of San Quirico d'Orcia. The manicured hedges transport you to another era and allow you to get lost in the moment. Stone ledges and wooden benches allow for you to sit back or lay down in the shade and enjoy the breeze. The wooded trails allow for great discovery and add to the era-transcending experience.

A great spot to come to and explore. Very cool in the shade and the views are wonderful. A charming, secret garden.

So so.

Horti Leonini is by no means the best garden in Tuscany. It is small, dark and consists of a few rows of box hedges. Not much there.
