The makeshift village depicts the houses and culture of different tribes. We went in last week of December . There were no one present. Garbage everywhere . It would be so much better if there are guides to explain. Not sure whether it was due to the festive time. The place seemed to be a leftover of hornbill festival and completely unattended.

We were there to witness one of the biggest cultural festival of Asia Continent " HORNBILL FESTIVAL". The festival organised by the Nagaland Tourism,Art & Cultural Dept. is also often called a festival of the festivals wherein all the major tribes of Nagaland comes under one roof to showcase the rich culture and tradition they have been following and preserving for centuries. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE to be there....About 12 kms from the capital city Kohima, the place is called Kisama where the Naga Heritage Village is built and the same place is where the festival takes place every first week of December.

This is an artfully created village, showcasing living places/huts of various tribes of this beautiful state. Each hut has been built differently, identifying with the tribe due to the design and artefacts shown over there.

A must do activity on day one for first time visitors.

This is the site of the annual Hornbill Festival, a colourful and interesting event that makes travelling to Kohima for a couple of days whilst it is on well worthwhile. It runs for 10 days at the beginning of December, but you need to plan in advance as accommodation soon fills up. The centre piece of the festival is the programme of cultural dances/shows that take place in the main arena morning and afternoon each day. They are provided by 17 tribal dance groups from Nagaland, dressed in their tribal finery. Each group puts on one performance a day, but the performance is different each day, so although we saw 25 performances during the day and a half we were there, we certainly weren't bored. When not at the performances the groups return to their tribal "morungs" on the site, and you can go into these to see what they are like, mingle with the performers and sample their food. Outside the main arena, there are craft demonstrations and other activities, craft shops, art and food displays and a museum about the remarkable World War II battle at Kohima. Although we didn't participate in any of them, there are also other events in the area outside the festival site throughout the 10 days.

Hornbill Festival happen between 1dec to 10 Dec.
Beautiful location , camp sites also available.
But need to book hotel at least 2 month advance.

Not a festival for vegetarians.
You will not find any vegetarian food in the festival ,either you have to eat only wai wai (kind of Maggie : but doesn't taste like that) and coffee.
For non vegetarian its a paradise you will get every kind of animal, you name it they will serve you.

Festival happen all over the town , night carnivals , concert , tribal dance.

2 days are okay to visit.
Complete 10 days will be very costly and it's not worth it.

Time your stay as per the events.
