About
KOHIMA WAR CEMETERY lies on the battle ground of Garrison Hill. No trace remains of the bungalow, which was destroyed in the fighting, but white concrete lines mark and preserve permanently the historic tennis court. The cemetery now contains 1,420 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War. At the highest point in the cemetery stands the KOHIMA CREMATION MEMORIAL commemorating 917 Hindu and Sikh soldiers whose remains were cremated in accordance with their faith.

Really nicely preserved war memorial. You can read the soldier names and realize war is never glorious. It’s loss of so many young men. Nice and lace to spend half an hour. It would be good if some guides are there for history buffs.

VEry well made and well-maintained place--appropirate for a sentimental memorial. Located on topp of a hill--the place offers great views of the city., However, almost the entire cemetry is for non-Indians only--with a few exceptions only!

It was a great pleasure for me to be a part of the Group of Tour operators visiting Nagaland during Feb 2020. Visited the War cemetery and paid tribute to those brave soldiers who died during second world war.

This is the largest war cemetery in North East India. Very well managed and it says the great line " when you go home, tell them if us that we gave our today for your tomorrow ".

It is a must visit for history lovers. It is one of the biggest war cemeteries I have been to. It is close to city centre and you can easily walk from bus stand.

We stayed close to this lovely place and started our day from here.

The place showcases the struggle of the British to keep India safe from attack of Japanese. Soldiers from various religions are buried here. A large stone plaque had the names of various regiments and officers, who took part in battle of those times and laid their lives.

The Cemetery is well cared for and serves as a reminder of the vicious battle that happended here in the Second World War. The infamous Tennis Court is marked out a the top of the hill to mark where the worst of the fughting ocured, with the British/Allied forces on one side of the court and Japanes on the other. The range of nationalities and religions of the fallen is a reminder of the international nature of the army that fought this most terrible and lesser known of battles in the Second Workd War. A must visit.

They say it is one of the 7 wonders in India! The Kohima war cemetery is one of the well maintained and manicured gardens. It is not the gloomy kind of place one would expect but has your hair standing when you see the line up of the tombs and inscriptions on each of the memorials.

The place is well maintained and the grave stones are clearly demarcated. Probably there could be a washroom to help visitors.
