We didn't start off well unfortunately, I had booked online and noted pickup from Hotel Tunturi - and had even spoken on the phone to them to confirm this was possible. I arrived early at the reception, confirming with the receptionist (of my own hotel) that this was correct. I asked if anyone else was waiting and she said there should be. A while after I met two other Australian ladies who were also waiting. After a time we became worried as no bus had arrived. Eventually our receptionist was able to contact the company who said they were on their way. When they arrived a few minutes later we were told that they didn't even know we were waiting there. As a result the tour started late to begin with, as we then had to be driven back to their business to put on overalls. A rushed process, where the staff attempted to rush us out the door without trying them on. We tried the overalls on anyway, and found mine to be several sizes small. A new size was given to me, complete with broken zip - but alas the tour was already late so I made do. We had to wait in the bus with no explanation for some time until some (very rude) guests abused the driver demanding to know what was happening. While I absolutely do not condone these guests' behaviour, some explanation would have been fantastic. After a while we headed off - the bus drive was easy, scenic and comfortable. On arrival at Lake Inari, we were disappointed to see that the camp was actually what appeared to be a public lookout/carpark of sorts. The bus pulled up close to the lake, remaining running if people needed to warm up. We didn't really know what to do, people appeared to just scatter to the lake so we followed. We looked up and where unsure what we were seeing, no guidance was given unless asked for. Very frustratingly, as the bus had left his lights on, the red park lights shone into every long exposure photo taken. Multiple cars arrived and left during our time at the lake, many who seemed indifferent to the many photographers on the lake as they shone their lights directly at us. While the company cannot be held responsible for the actions of others, I feel that others looking to book should be aware of what to expect. The camp was a small teepee style hut with some seating and a fire. Hot drink was served, and the guide was friendly enough if you asked a question, just not particularly proactive in guiding otherwise. Reading the tour description again, it seems we may have also missed out on the mid way stop to take photos that is described, presumably because of how late the tour was running. I think that there are perhaps better tours to take, listening to the experiences of family who stayed nearby at the time and went elsewhere.

We booked the reindeer adventure 4 h.
We started at 10 o clock but it is advised that you come half an hour early to get dressed and get started.
Our tour was with an other couple and a family of three.
First you learn how to make fire with only wood and you get some warm fruit punch.
The guide was very good and explained a lot and we really had fun trying! We then went to see the reindeers which are-
Of course- normally wild animals. The men who did the reindeer tour with us could handle them but they are very shy.
The tour was ca 40 minutes long. It is nice and makes fun and the animals are lovely.
We went back and got a soup and salad which was good. All in all we where there for about 2 hours. That was a little disappointing because we thought we booked 4 h to spend more time with the animals and maybe get to know them a bit better. Maybe it is just a bit confusing on the website. It was nice and everyone is very polite and does a good job. It was just to short and too little time for what we expected.

Thanks Yani for a night never to forget. We saw the northern lights dance across the sky and it was a wonderful experience. The fire was warming on a freezing night with a hot juice. Would recommend this tour.

I was lucky enough to see the Northern lights with Wilderness Safaris Saariselka not once but twice during my stay in the Lapland. The first was with the 'Northern Lights Between Two Countries' tour which was such an amazing experiences, the lights waited until the very last minute to appear but the lovely guide made the wait fun and interesting. My second booking with them was for 'Aurora Hunting by Heated Sleigh' this experience was entirely different but the show in the sky that night was truly incredible, it went for hours.
We had some issues with our second guide but I can't speak highly enough about the company, they took on the feedback about the guide and were quick to come back to me with an apology and a resolution. They helped me tick off a huge bucket list item in style :D

It was December 2015 that me and my partner did the Snowmobile tour, I have only just recently signed up for TripAdvisor so that's the reason for the delayed review...

Anyway, so me and my partner shopped around the local area for who could do the cheapest tour as it is all fairly expensive, we found Wilderness Safari to be the cheapest and for what they offer for the price is simply amazing.

Luckily no one else had booked for the evening to do the Snowmobile tour so me and my girlfriend had the tour guide to ourselves and had the freedom to do whatever we wanted.

We started by going to one of the highest points in the area to try and see the northern lights, unfortunately the sky was a little cloudy that night so we wasn't able to see them, however we did get some great pictures of us enjoying the snowmobiles.

Then we drove to the TeePee hut located a few miles away, took a little while to get there but that's only because my girlfriend was nervous about riding the Snowmobile. We arrived at the TeePee and it was just magical, lovely and warm inside once the fire was on.

Had some traditional Finnish food, some sausages from the local area, salmon with cheese on cracker bread. All which had been cooked infront of us on the fire. Then washed down with some amazing warm berry juice.

Once we had eaten a little we then headed back to the town to finish the evening, but instead we took the long way back and it was my turn to drive the snowmobile. Being a motorcyclist the tour guide was more than happy to go a little quicker so we could have a little fun on the Snowmobiles, very enjoyable flying through the woods and trying to keep up with the tour guide. We stopped a few times along the way to get some pictures, the tour guide had bought his camera along to make sure we got the perfect pictures as a standard phone camera wasn't able to account for their being no light out, these were then later sent to us Via email free of charge.

Me and my girlfriend said this excursion would be something that we would remember for the rest of our lives.

Markku was the main reason the experience was so enjoyable, was professional the whole time, was full of knowledge regarding the local area, Finnish history, had a brilliant sense of humour and spoke very good English.

Anyone going to Saariselka I thoroughly recommend going to see Markku and his team. You will not be disappointed. I'm sure we will return one day!

We signed up for Aurora hunting at Lake Inari. Unfortunately, it was snowing during the day we had our excursion and there was no light. The guide (an elderly gentleman) was friendly and knowledgeable enough to explain the weather as well as sharing details about the lake.

After visiting Lake Inari, our guide proceeded to bring us to another frozen lake spot with teepee and prepared some snacks for us. We tried to stay a bit longer in hope to catch the light as the weather can change pretty quickly, but lady luck was against us.

Lake Inari seems like an amazing location to catch Northern Light if you are lucky! We will do this again if we visit Ivalo in future.

One point, though - there was some miscommunication on our pick-up. The guide supposed to pick us up from West Village of Hotel Kakslauttanen, but somehow he was given the information to go to East Village. Luckily the hotel reception was kind enough to assist us to contact the guide. But, as we were the last passengers that he drop-off that evening, he sent us almost to our glass igloo. Superb service recovery!!

The best place to stay in Saariselkä for sure! I ended up extending my stay simply for the amazing staff they've got.

Markku, the "crazy boy from Lapland", is clearly very passionate about what he does and it shows in the quality of service his company provides. I ended up extending my trip because I was having such a great time, and by the end of my stay I was already thinking of how I can hopefully come and work for him someday! :P

Top notch guides, like Jani who took me on the best 4hr snowmobile ride of my life. He took great pictures and videos and he even brought me for a thrilling ride in the deep snow on the back of his snowmobile when I was too nervous to go alone. I loved riding with him so much I booked two other snowmobile tours (nighttime safari and icenfishing). He always took me to some beautiful places and I had a great time hearing his stories and learning from him.

Kaj took me on a snowshoe ride to a nearby teepee and made a fire. He told stories of life in the area and what it was like to build the activity center. I enjoyed listening to him talk and learned a lot
from him!

Eerikki took me to the lake and took great pictures of the aurora. Highly recommend the lake activity because all three times there were Aurora visible even though it was cloudy back at the hotel. Eerikki had some fascinating facts about working as a writer for a wilderness magazine. Both times I went to the lake Dominic made a fire and served up some snacks. He spoke about the surrounding wildlife and about the special wood they use for fires. It was great talking to him about life in Finland as well.

Petri is always smiling and happy and an absolute joy to be around. He is a very interesting man with many great stories and lots of knowledge. He is very friendly and always up for making the crowd laugh.

Ari is the reindeer expert who took me on a relaxing safari in the woods. He even took pictures of me in the sleigh and told me about growing up in Finland.

Jukka did the covered sleigh tour which was smooth and warm on the reindeer pelts. Even though we didn't see the Aurora that night, Ioved listening to his stories around the campfire. The always-entertaining Irokeesi made the fire and served snacks and was entertaining simply by being himself. He's very friendly and I had fun just by being around him.

The reception and restaurant crew is equally amazing. Very helpful and accommodating. Anna, Katri, Johanni, and André were very welcoming and friendly, eager to give their advice on different activities. It was great to talk to them about what brought them to the company. And of course there is Gustavo and Alex who showed me the nightlife and were fun guys to talk to and be around.

I had an amazing time with this group of people and by the end of it all they seemed more like friends than workers. Highly recommend their tours as well as a stay in the beautiful cabins as well. Treat them kindly and they will go above and beyond for you.

Looking forward to seeing you all again soon!

Myself and my daughter did an evening northern lights trip with this company. From the off it seemed disorganised and we were the only people on the trip, so the guide brought along his lady friend! Lots of time was wasted as he gathered up supplies and got organised. We declined to travel in the aurora heated sleigh as it felt incredibly claustrophobic and was old, stank of fuel fumes and the windows were so misted/iced up we couldn't see a thing out of them. The heater didn't seem to be working anyway so we asked instead to go in the open sleigh.

When we arrived at the aurora camp we were shocked to see it had completely blown down and was covered/buried in snow. Clearly no one from the company had been up there to check it in some time. So there was nowhere dry to sit and nothing to provide us with any protection from the wind. So even though the guide lit a fire, it was next to useless in providing any warmth without a tent around to contain the heat. We were unable to get warm and the wind was biting cold so with nowhere to get any protection from the wind, we made the decision to cut short the trip and return to our hotel.

I have emailed several times and posted on Facebook but Markuu has not responded to me. I feel we should have been given a partial refund as the trip was not as advertised and the company should have checked the state of their camp, as it's important to provide clients with somewhere they can take shelter from the wind and warm up around the fire. At the moment I would not recommend this company and to avoid any further negative reviews/feedback would ask that they address my complaint and consider a refund as we paid a lot of money for this trip and did not receive what was promised. Thank you.

WE had an amazing experience with our guide, Visa who made a dream come true forMy daughter and I. Though we had some cloudy skies Visa found some open space and Mother Nature did the rest. Would highly recommend this company.
