Good amount of slopes with lifts that at the time were not at all crowded so it was great to get fast up and use these slopes offering beautiful scenery.

Totally surpassed my expectations. Myself and 10 year old twins had walked from town and went to the rental shop where the super helpful assistant kitted us out with helmets, huge toboggans, a chair lift pass for 2 hours as well as which way to go. It's a bit of a juggle on the chair lift but to be expected.
It was early December and we had the toboggan slope to ourselves, an absolute privilege. In my my totally non-professional opinion, it's perfect for maybe 8 year olds and upwards, goggles are a must. There is a small part of the slope that is equivalent to a red run but it is preceded by a fairly flat bit so come to a stop naturally meaning you can control yourself with your hands for the steep bit.
We did it 3 times, I would have gone a 4th but it was -11 so we called it a day. A very special memory and I would dearly love to return for a ski holiday.

I learned how to ski in there. Stuff was not really helpful unless you asked for it several times. However, there are plenty of slopes for those who are beginners.

Good slopes, great service and decent prices. We rented skis for the whole family and had a nice day skiing. The day ended with the Aurora Tobogganing. It's Finland's longest toboggan slope.

The ski rental of Saariselkä worked nicely and Covid-19 was taken seriously: in through one and out through another door, desinfection and masks offered, benches wiped after every customer, all personnell wearing masks (and Christmas suites), fluent service. Only drawback is the price and the fact that our skiers had forgotten their own ski glasses home. Glasses are sold but not rented in the ski shop. I did not ski but I heard they had had good fun even if they are used to the Alps!

A small and idyllic ski resort in Lapland. No decent services.
If you want to spend time at the slope restaurant with the family/friends, look for another resort. But if you want to ski in a quiet place, this is for you.

Loving to visit Saariselkä and experience the beautiful nature. However, I think it is my moral duty to warn about the toboggan run. Our children waited very much to experience it. We saw advertisements of it being very long but nobody told us how steep and dangerous it is. 🙁
There are very steep sections, tight curves and the speed rises easily extemely high. You can try to brake with your feet, but then the snow flies like needles to your eyes. But, of course you just have to brake. I did not see anything and in a curve I flied against a barrier. It was broken and the steel pipe hit my leg. My husband with our little child was about to go off track from a spot with no barriers. I can not imagine what might be the consequences if mashing a tree with that speed.
There should be information that this is a black slope kind of sport, recomendation of the goggles and a sign that no slalom skiers could enter this slope. ( If you want to through yourself from the toboggan when speed is too high, pray that there are no skiers behind you.)
However, my teenage boy said that ”no danger, no fun”. He enjoyed this exteme sport. So, I only think that the right kind of information should be given.
Btw, In rental office noboby mentioned that goggles are recomended (There should be a extreme sport warning sign and a recommendation of goggles even thought you can not rent them).Of course it might be so that even with goggles you don’t see nothing.

Great slopes and easy ski and boot rental process. The restaurant is a bit pricy but has good food and drinks.

Staying at a hotel nearby in Dec 2020 and this looks amazing. Is the toboggan run and winter park both suitable for young children - ours will have just turned 6 & 8 when we arrive!

Hi there, absolutely ok for young children. We had our 5yr and a 10 yr old with us on the sledding run and had a great time. The 5yr old shedded with dad and the 10yr old went by himself and all had a ball. Highly recommended for some sledding fun :).

Hi ! An Easy Ski package of 3 hours or 1 day and I suggest You have it for days minimum. 1.5 hours instructed lesson per day and the rest of the day (or if a 3 hours ticket) the rest of the remaining time, You practice on your own with the instructions you have gotten on the lesson. An then repeat it the next day. There is a skibus connection daily from Kakslauttanen. Pls. check the time schedule on skisaariselka website. Our Skischool will hep you with further questions . Welcome !

Hi, does the equipment hire includes goggles?
If it doesn't, could we rent goggles at the ski resort?
Juha P

Hi . Thank You for question. The equipment hire does not include goggles and goggles are not for rent either. Goggles are more considered to personal items and we have them for sale in various price categories. Hope this is ok for You :) !

If I am getting the ski bus from Ivalo for a day trip, should I pre book ski equipment in advance? Is this possible?
Juha P

Hi! Prebooking is really advised on the busiest seasons ie Christmas and Finnish Ski Holiday weeks. If you are visiting now, there is always plenty of gear available daily when opening. Prebooking is possible in our webshop or via e-mail.
Hello, i’m karam
I heard that any lift other than a chair lift is free. Is it true???

Helsinki, Finland31 contributions
Hi Karam. Thanks for the question. We sell different ski passes to the lifts starting from 3 hours. All the lifts other than the kids lift in the training area require a ski pass. The chair lift takes you not only to the ski slopes but also to the tobogganing track.

Hallo. Ja das kann man. Leihen z.B. Luontolomat oder Lapland Safaris. Loipen zum skaten gibt es ca 150 KM. Bin aber nicht sicher. Insgesamt Loipen 200 Km, aber alle, die weitesten nicht zum skaten.

Hi,
We’ve booked independently to visit Saariselka in January. Is it possible to hire snow shoes & skis for a week or by the day & how much does it cost. Do you need snow shoes to walk the trails?
Thanks,
Fifi

Hi Fifi! Thanks for Your question. We have skis for hire, snow shoes You ´ll find in the village from other suppliers. There are trails for both, either for walking with snow shoes or without. Pls. check out also our 1.8 km long tobogganing slope. If you haven´t ever done that before, you must. It is super fun ! Further info for ski hire on our web page . About the trails more on Saariselka webpage. Too bad, not possible to send you web links here. Looking forward to seeing You :) ! Fly safe !

Hi
We stayed at aurora cabins which was a few miles down the road from the main sarriskela centre and we hired a car. Lots of hotels in the centre though, it’s a fabulous place. Do the northern lights tour - see my recommendations. The ski centre is good, not huge but good runs and it’s quiet. It’s cold though very very cold so prepare for that!
Enjoy! It was one of the best trips we have ever done! ❤️
