Great skiing experience
Mar 2021 • Family
Good slopes, great service and decent prices. We rented skis for the whole family and had a nice day skiing. The day ended with the Aurora Tobogganing. It's Finland's longest toboggan slope.

Christmas ski rental
Dec 2020 • Family
The ski rental of Saariselkä worked nicely and Covid-19 was taken seriously: in through one and out through another door, desinfection and masks offered, benches wiped after every customer, all personnell wearing masks (and Christmas suites), fluent service. Only drawback is the price and the fact that our skiers had forgotten their own ski glasses home. Glasses are sold but not rented in the ski shop. I did not ski but I heard they had had good fun even if they are used to the Alps!

If you want to ski in a quiet place, this is for you.
Dec 2020
A small and idyllic ski resort in Lapland. No decent services.
If you want to spend time at the slope restaurant with the family/friends, look for another resort. But if you want to ski in a quiet place, this is for you.

Toboggan run is for extreme athletes
Dec 2020 • Family
Loving to visit Saariselkä and experience the beautiful nature. However, I think it is my moral duty to warn about the toboggan run. Our children waited very much to experience it. We saw advertisements of it being very long but nobody told us how steep and dangerous it is. 🙁
There are very steep sections, tight curves and the speed rises easily extemely high. You can try to brake with your feet, but then the snow flies like needles to your eyes. But, of course you just have to brake. I did not see anything and in a curve I flied against a barrier. It was broken and the steel pipe hit my leg. My husband with our little child was about to go off track from a spot with no barriers. I can not imagine what might be the consequences if mashing a tree with that speed.
There should be information that this is a black slope kind of sport, recomendation of the goggles and a sign that no slalom skiers could enter this slope. ( If you want to through yourself from the toboggan when speed is too high, pray that there are no skiers behind you.)
However, my teenage boy said that ”no danger, no fun”. He enjoyed this exteme sport. So, I only think that the right kind of information should be given.
Btw, In rental office noboby mentioned that goggles are recomended (There should be a extreme sport warning sign and a recommendation of goggles even thought you can not rent them).Of course it might be so that even with goggles you don’t see nothing.

Great slopes and easy ski and boot rental process. The restaurant is a bit pricy but has good food and drinks.

Amazing
Feb 2020 • Family
The toboggan run is the best I’ve been on. So much fun. Saariselkä was a lovely resort too. Myself and my family were beginner snowboarders and this resort was perfect for that. Also beginner ski for one of my kids. The staff at the ski school were amazing too: so helpful and so friendly. Highly recommend. We had a magical week to be fair.

In case You would like to share some more thoughts with us, pls. send me an e-mail to juha.polonen@skisaariselka.fi and let us continue there. When I booked our trip to Finland one of the things I really wanted to do was tobogganing so we were booked in here for two hours. On arrival we were informed that the chair lifts to the top of the toboggan run were closed due to the weather conditions. Now, I understand that it was too windy for these to operate and wouldn't have wanted to get on them if they were blowing about but we weren't really offered an alternative by the young chap with the floppy hair who served us and it wasn't an option to come another day. When prompted, he said we could maybe practise our ski-ing but we have never ski-ed so this wasn't really possible. I had read that we could snow tube so were directed here which was fun for 30 mins but had an ad-hoc system of some people sharing the tubes and some definitely not. We decided we would like to try the toboggan run at least once, even if it meant walking up. On our return to collect sleds we were then told, by a more helpful member of staff, of the existence of the ski bus that would take us to the top of the run - however, we had just missed one and the next one was an hour later and too late for our 2 hour slot. I'm not sure why we weren't told about this first. So we walked to the top - not recommended! And on the way down we soon discovered that braking with your feet causes ice splinters to fly into your eyes which really, really hurts! Goggles would have prevented this but we hadn't thought to ask and they hadn't been offered and neither had helmets. So, a steep learning curve in more ways than one. Please accept that many of your customers come from warmer climes and may need a little extra guidance to have an enjoyable visit. However, the hot chocolates were great!

Hi Patemans ! Thank You for Your response. So sorry to read You have had this kind of bad experience. I have no excuse not explanation to this so just can say sorry. In case the chair lift happens to be closed due to hard winds or other reason, the ticket is valid another day or can be credited. You, however have shown courage which would not have been needed if You would have been properly informed. In case we may still somehow credit your efforts, please get in touch with me via e-mail: juha.polonen@skisaariselka.fi and let´s see if there is something to do to make this up to you. We have received the goggles-feedback every now and then, but for hygiene reasons we can not rent them. We can improve the information on the webshop and on our website or maybe to have some cheaper models for sale for this particular activity could be an idea for next season. Thank You for Your open feedback and review! I still hope You enjoyed your stay in Saariselkä even though You happened to visit us during the few stormy days we have had this winter. Hope You will come back some time again.

Nice all around ski place - great toboggan ride 😁
Feb 2020 • Family
You can rent ski, toboggans, lift cards and everything else for this area...

Would especially recommend the toboggan (sleighs) for a 2 hour period including lift card... so much fun for both kids, teenagers and adults... There are free sleighs laying around but choose the ones you can rent - they are bigger and better and definitely worth it... 2 hours gives you approximately 6 rides up and down, which is enough as your body will be ‘beaten’...

Watch your back on the bumpy rides down and have fun 😄😁😄

Learned to Snowboard!
Feb 2020 • Couples
Hello there,,

We’re in Lapland to see the northern lights and we thought we’d spend the day skiing and Snowboarding.. my wife and I split up as it’s her first time skiing and my first time snowboarding.
We took private lessons off the website and came a few minutes early.
The experience was overall great and highly recommended but there is space to improve the website and make more user friendly especially to foreigners who may need more than one service.
The school was great and the instructors were amazing (Anna and Julia specifically) the services were very well maintained and the restaurant had quite the selection of snacks and drinks (although I still didn’t manage to get a proper cup of coffee in Finland.. sorry! It’s not the resorts fault).
Highly recommended for the service, book your lesson or pass online and you can rent items straight from the resort (if you have difficulty with the website).

Note: it would have been helpful to state that you don’t need a pass if you’re going to the ski school, but they were nice enough to refund in cash when they found out

Enjoy!

Short ski runs, none of the black runs were open when we visited in February. Chair lift could be upgraded to heated seats and covers to protect from very cold winds. Saariselkä does not seem as modern as other Scandinavian ski resorts. Ski bus ticket not included with ski pass like other places. No lift queues and empty pistes and good level of difficulty on blue and red runs. Toboggan run is fun though. Not a resort for advanced skiing, but plenty of other activities on offer which is what the resort seems to be set up for. Restaurants at top and bottom of lifts serve good hearty food. Great home-made salmon soup and doughnuts.
