- Ode64Jyväskylä, Finland92 contributionsChristmas ski rentalThe ski rental of Saariselkä worked nicely and Covid-19 was taken seriously: in through one and out through another door, desinfection and masks offered, benches wiped after every customer, all personnell wearing masks (and Christmas suites), fluent service. Only drawback is the price and the fact that our skiers had forgotten their own ski glasses home. Glasses are sold but not rented in the ski shop. I did not ski but I heard they had had good fun even if they are used to the Alps!Visited December 2020Travelled with familyWritten 29 December 2020
- Fahad A. Al-ThenayyanRiyadh, Saudi Arabia320 contributionsLearned to Snowboard!Hello there,, We’re in Lapland to see the northern lights and we thought we’d spend the day skiing and Snowboarding.. my wife and I split up as it’s her first time skiing and my first time snowboarding. We took private lessons off the website and came a few minutes early. The experience was overall great and highly recommended but there is space to improve the website and make more user friendly especially to foreigners who may need more than one service. The school was great and the instructors were amazing (Anna and Julia specifically) the services were very well maintained and the restaurant had quite the selection of snacks and drinks (although I still didn’t manage to get a proper cup of coffee in Finland.. sorry! It’s not the resorts fault). Highly recommended for the service, book your lesson or pass online and you can rent items straight from the resort (if you have difficulty with the website). Note: it would have been helpful to state that you don’t need a pass if you’re going to the ski school, but they were nice enough to refund in cash when they found out Enjoy! Fahad A.Hello Fahad. Thank very very much for Your review. Great to hear how You progressed and congratulations for that ! We really appreciate the feedback you are giving. We will check the website as soon as possbile and always good to have feedback for developing. Wishing You furthermore a great stay in Saariselkä and hope there will be clear nights so that You will see the northern lights as well. - spannerwingnutLondon, United Kingdom372 contributionsSkiing and tobogganing! My husband and I spent a week in Saariselka, and we ended up at the Ski slopes for 3 days and and spending an evening tobogganing! The skiing was great, much more chilled out compared to the Alps, we basically had the slopes to ourselves! It's only a small area, and also because the day light is limited it's perfect for a relaxed couple of days. I hadn't skied for a few years so I booked a coaching session one morning which was with Anna, who was really great! Helped me to get my confidence back a bit and took us down the slopes in stages giving us helpful tips and tricks. The coaching was great value too as you got the lesson, ski hire and a day pass for the lifts all included! We found all the gear excellent and the staff in the hire shop really friendly and helpful. Perfect place for beginners and such a beautiful area. We easily walked to and from town, but I got the ski bus the morning of my lesson which runs to a set timetable from the bus stops around town, and costs 5 Euro for a day pass. There toboggan run was great fun, using the same lift as the skiers you go to the top and then follow the lights back down to the bottom of the lift, as long as you slow down a bit for the bend it was awesome! We did that run about 5 times! So fun. Also at the end of your skiing when you have finished with your pass you can get a 3 Euro discount in the Bistro! The food is good and the hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream is also excellent!Hi spannerwingnut ! So great to read Your review and so glad, that You had a good time, despite the obviously cold weather You happened to experience on your visit. It is always a pleasure to welcome You back again. Super friendly and helpful staff! The bike was excellent as well and we really enjoyed our day! We took the trail to Rautulampi. It is very difficult but definitely doable and exytemely beautiful. We recommend to rent the bike for a full day! That way you can take multiple trails and have lunch and coffee breaks.

Went here for an afternoon to try snowboarding. Unfortunately all lessons were booked up (book ahead) so I had to try it out on the green (beginners) slope only, but that was my fault for not planning ahead. Hired all necessary equipment (helmet, jacket, boots, board) except gloves.

We rented equipment and got a 3 hour pass. We were basically alone on the mountain, which was beautiful. I’m a beginner, and they had 1 blue trail with fresh snow, which was perfect for me! We had lunch (fried lappish cheese and fish and chips) at the restaurant after and it was delicious!

We haven’t visited Saariselkä for quite some years and it was surprising to see how the place has developed. Particularly the amount of high quality restaurants was a pleasant surprise and we had a pleasure to visit a few of them. Also the amount of hotels and lodges has exploded and other services have grown along them. Trails and ski tracks are covering large areas and they seem to be well equipped in in good condition.
We came to see the autumn colours and this goal was completed when we climbed to the top of the Iisakkipää fjäll. Sceneries were magnificent, even though the weather wasn’t on our side. We stayed in Holiday Club spa hotel and this was a perfect choise. The spa is an excellent way to relax after hiking the whole day in the nature.
Saariselkä is easy to reach by flight to Ivalo and 20 min. bus ride from the air port. Warm recommendation to anybody.

Hi, may I know if there are lockers in the ski resort? I am planning to go over 3 days and wish not to have to lug the ski equipment up the ski bus everyday.

Staying at a hotel nearby in Dec 2020 and this looks amazing. Is the toboggan run and winter park both suitable for young children - ours will have just turned 6 & 8 when we arrive!

Hi there, absolutely ok for young children. We had our 5yr and a 10 yr old with us on the sledding run and had a great time. The 5yr old shedded with dad and the 10yr old went by himself and all had a ball. Highly recommended for some sledding fun :).

Hi ! An Easy Ski package of 3 hours or 1 day and I suggest You have it for days minimum. 1.5 hours instructed lesson per day and the rest of the day (or if a 3 hours ticket) the rest of the remaining time, You practice on your own with the instructions you have gotten on the lesson. An then repeat it the next day. There is a skibus connection daily from Kakslauttanen. Pls. check the time schedule on skisaariselka website. Our Skischool will hep you with further questions . Welcome !

Hi, does the equipment hire includes goggles?
If it doesn't, could we rent goggles at the ski resort?

Hi . Thank You for question. The equipment hire does not include goggles and goggles are not for rent either. Goggles are more considered to personal items and we have them for sale in various price categories. Hope this is ok for You :) !

If I am getting the ski bus from Ivalo for a day trip, should I pre book ski equipment in advance? Is this possible?
Juha P

Hi! Prebooking is really advised on the busiest seasons ie Christmas and Finnish Ski Holiday weeks. If you are visiting now, there is always plenty of gear available daily when opening. Prebooking is possible in our webshop or via e-mail.
Hello, i’m karam
I heard that any lift other than a chair lift is free. Is it true???

Helsinki, Finland31 contributions
Hi Karam. Thanks for the question. We sell different ski passes to the lifts starting from 3 hours. All the lifts other than the kids lift in the training area require a ski pass. The chair lift takes you not only to the ski slopes but also to the tobogganing track.

Hi,
We’ve booked independently to visit Saariselka in January. Is it possible to hire snow shoes & skis for a week or by the day & how much does it cost. Do you need snow shoes to walk the trails?
Thanks,
Fifi

Hi Fifi! Thanks for Your question. We have skis for hire, snow shoes You ´ll find in the village from other suppliers. There are trails for both, either for walking with snow shoes or without. Pls. check out also our 1.8 km long tobogganing slope. If you haven´t ever done that before, you must. It is super fun ! Further info for ski hire on our web page . Hi
We stayed at aurora cabins which was a few miles down the road from the main sarriskela centre and we hired a car. Lots of hotels in the centre though, it’s a fabulous place. Do the northern lights tour - see my recommendations. The ski centre is good, not huge but good runs and it’s quiet. It’s cold though very very cold so prepare for that!
Enjoy! It was one of the best trips we have ever done! ❤️
