Just back from a 3-night adventure in Saariselka and am feeling very sad to be back! I travelled with my almost 8-year-old son and we booked a couple of Aurora Hunting trips with Aiva from Husky & Co.
Although the lights didn't appear much while we were on our trips Aiva went out of his way by showing us various different and magnificent locations and offering to work longer hours to try and give us the experience we so desperately sought.
We did in the end see a faint green glow, which was a blessed relief for us all and it was a pleasure to learn so much from Aiva over the course of the two evenings. Thank you! I have already checked out trips back to Lapland next winter and if I do come back, I would definitely use Husky & Co again. Plus, after reading some of these reviews, I would book a husky trip with them too!

If you like dogs, husky safari is a must! It was an amazing experience! The landscape was very beautiful and the dogs were so excited about the ride they made. It was really fantastic to see how happy are all the dogs in the Husky & co company. We had August as a guide. He was caring and he gladly answered all my numerous questions. We had a ride, then could pet the dogs, then had time to communicate and pet the puppies (so lovely, including their mother), and in the end, we had a nice cup of tea in a hut with a fireplace. Great! Simply great!

We had a great couple of hours driving Snow Mobiles over the Fells and through the forest. We were lucky with the weather which made the experience even better. The hosts were friendly but made you aware of all safety instructions and they were very professional.
The scenery was amazing and there were a couple of stops to take photos. Halfway we stopped for a hot drink and snack and you had the opportunity to change drivers if you so desired as the snowmobiles take two passengers.
The only addition to this trip, that would have made it even more enjoyable, would have been the opportunity to open up the snowmobiles over a large piece of flat land and go a bit faster for those that wanted to have a bit more of an adrenalin rush, Even if this was only a 10 minute addition.

Great to get your first taste of snowmobiling. Aiva was an excellent guide who gave clear directions, was flexible and made the most of the excursion, given the overall skills of the group and the weather conditions.

Wow what an experience.. such a fabulous place to experience the thrill of being pulled by 6 huskies. The dogs were rearing to get going when we were getting into sleighs. We had a journey through snow filled forest like narnia scene it was soo amazing. Be prepared for passengers its cold.. bring hand and foot warmers.. great staff who love their dogs and very indept chat afterwards around the fire about them. We had a injured party and unable to do scheduled snowmobile excursion previous evening but staff were very accommodating and thoughtful which we really appreciated. Great company, great staff, happy dogs happy family day out 🙂

We did the Husky ride and Snowmobile trip. Great experience on both, well organised, professionally run and all the team we’re friendly and helpful. A new life experience we will never forget - who new I could ride a Husky sleigh!
Tip - they provide all the gear if you need it - just wear lots and lots of layers, it’s cold!

Check the liability before booking the snow mobile tour
There was no problem with the staff or service however the limitation of liability is very high compared to other operators (this is the maximum you have to pay of you damage the snow mobile
)
It cost me 1,200 euro for a minor accident in the snow mobile when I strayed 1 m off the track (could not see the edge due to the large amount of blown snow and no markers) it was impossible to follow the guide tracks as the blowing snow covered them
Here are the things to think about (that I did not before booking)
1. The snow mobiles are very fragile, and very expensive to repair
2. You can follow the guide but the track edges are not fully marked so never stray more than a few CM from their tracks
3. Snow mobile or skidoo activities are generally not covered by general travel insurance
4. husky & co have a liability cap of $2,500 euros - this was recently increased from 1,200 euros - I saw other snow mobile tours with a cap of 900 euros
5. You have no power to challenge the amount for the repair (unless you are an experienced snow mobile engineer ) so the company can charge you what they like without come back
My recommendations are
- shop around for other providers with lower liability limits (2,500 euros is too high and is typically the same as for a hire car worth 5 times the amount of a snow mobile)
- try and get travel insurance that covers you for accident repair liability
If you have this peace of mind then you can enjoy the experience instead of focusing 100% on not crashing the snow mobile

Dear Stephen,
Thank You for choosing us for your snowmobile and husky experiences.
Unfortunately, snowmobile accidents happen, and our customers are warned about the accidents and self risk liability fee beforehand.
Good point of you, to mention of having travel insurance that covers the snowmobile tours - anyhow, that is not our company responsibility.
With us, everyone signs the paper, where they agree, that they are responsible for the machines they are driving, and everyone that are scared, are welcome to participate in the sledge.
In regards of your accident, it may looked minor, but as you mentioned, snowmobiles are very fragile and we had to change 4 parts which were seen immediately after the accident, and more damage of cracked parts came later, when snowmobile was dissembled.
We are located in the small village, where prices are higher than in the cities, or Southern Finland, and it takes longer to get the service here.
The snowmobile tracks are public and maintained not by us. Keeping in mind, that safaris are happening in the open areas, or forests, the weather conditions are not always perfect, that is true.
You were offered to get a breakdown of the pricing, which you did not come back to take. In no means we are charging unfair, most of the times, there are parts that we cover ourselves as they come out later, when we start fixing.
It is never pleasant neither for customers, guides and other staff when accidents happen, and we need to charge extra.
For the same reason, you were given a discount on the husky safaris for your family.
Anyhow, thank you for choosing us again!
Kind Regards,
Indre

The most exhilarating experience! Wonderful dogs, in their element working together through beautiful scenery. Being able to pet them afterwards was a real treat. Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff who clearly have a passion for what they do and the animals they care for. Memories to cherish - thank you! Kate

How many people fit in one sleigh?
We are a couple with a 9 year old. We don’t mind riding separately but us adults are plus size. Is that ok?

Thanks,

Best to check with them directly... I understand it is seasonal. When I did my trip in Dec, they will only run the shorter trips because of snow conditions as well.

Dear husky & co
I want to rent a snowmobile. Do I need to pay for a deposit when I getting my ride? What type of driving license is needed? I have driving license of private cars and light goods vehicle, but not motorcycles. So can I drive a snowmobile?
I also want to drive quad bikes. Are they available in winter?
HuskyCoTeam
Saariselka, Finland
Hello,
Thank you for your questions, unfortunately we don't rent snowmobiles. If you are interested in having the snowmobile experience, we offer guided tour :) Car driving license is fine by us. Please send your inquiry to husky@huskyco.fi
Deposit is not required, all safari payment has to be settled 1 day before activity date.
Quad bike is not available in winter, because snow is not solid ground, quad wheel will get stuck and not able to move! Let us know if you have more questions.

Dear Husky & Co,
For the 4-5 hr husky ride, what are the differences between the experience for those staying at Kakslauttanen vs. those staying in Saariselka? You mentioned that different farms are used -- so what are the differences between the farms, the group sizes, the trails, any noticeable timing issues (for ex, Saariselka reviews often mention having to wait for long times for everyone to show up and then suit up), etc? Thanks so much once again!
HuskyCoTeam
Saariselka, Finland
Hi,
There is no difference for us if you stay in saariselkä or in kakslauttanen resort. We are two different companies so Kakslauttanen resort use another supplier for the longer tour.
So actually if decide to stay in Kakslauttanen resort you will make another tour that we would offer :)
the other company is called Kamisak.
Best Regards,

Dear Husky & Co Team:
Thank you so much for the incredibly quick and very detailed responses! The reviews on this page & on the Kakslauttanen TripAdvisor pages are very complimentary of your customer service, and I can see why!
If I'd like to book directly through you instead of the Kakslauttanen resort, what is the best way to get your activities? For snowmobiling, I would imagine I should get myself to your office in Saariselka by taxi in the morning (unless you offer pick up on site or near the resort?); however I believe your husky farm is very close to Kakslauttanen and so it would not be ideal to go all the way to Saariselka and then come back to almost the same starting point. If you won't be able to pick me up at Kakslauttanen, how would you suggest I get to the husky activity? Can I walk, or should I take a taxi? Will you be able to bring snow gear there, or should I meet at the Saariselka office if I want to use the snowsuit?
Many thanks again!
HuskyCoTeam
Saariselka, Finland
Hello,
Thank you for your kind word. Our guides would be really happy to know all our customers have enjoyed their experiences.
We actually have 2 Husky Kennel, one is close to Kakslauttanen resort, another small one is near Saariselkä area. We have cooperation contract with Hotel Kakslauttanen, unfortunately I couldn´t accept direct booking. If you wish to do snowmobiling and 2 hours husky, the reception they will direct your inquiry to us. Or you could state in your booking to resort, that you wish to do it with us. Booking through hotel is convenient, because our guide can come and pick you up from the reception (save your time to go back and forth). Winter gear you will receive before all activities at our kennel dressing room.
Let us know if you have more questions, happy to help!
