Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Today we went to the reindeer farm with our three children. Three reindeer were tied to a tree. The girls fed two of them with moss twice each, and the employee spent five minutes explaining something about the animals. You're not supposed to touch the animals. After that there was an awkward silence and the girls were shivering. My husband tried to fill this awkward emptiness with jokes, and the short fun cost 105 euros. That's an outrage!

Today we had a delightful trip to the local Saariselka reindeer farm. We were welcomed and shown the reindeer by the Sami reindeer hurder who was informative and calm. Followed by a short but fun little sleigh ride. We then had a very cosy fireside chat in a traditional tent with the Sami hurder who openly answered all our Sami and Reindeer questions whilst we drank warm juice and ate the loveliest ginger biscuits. Simple and thoughtfully calm trip.

Amazing experience!! It was great to know more about the reindeers and the way how the Lapland people take care of them and live in harmony. We arranged to visit the farm because during this time of the year the reindeers are out in the forest. Thx so much for experience! highly recommended

We visited this reindeer farm on a snowy night. The pick up by Lapland Safaris was smoothly and easy. The lady of the farm, is s real Sami. She was very knowledgeable. At the farm we very divided in pairs for the sleighs. Every sleigh its own reindeer. The pace was slow, but so we could enjoy the beautiful nature. We had a lot of fun with the reindeer behind us. He was to quick, so his head was next to ours.

Quiet and peaceful activity, don't forget the heating pads in the gloves and shoes if you want to enjoy the raindeer sledge ride!
The raindeers seem well-treated and the staff is very friendly.
Interesting facts about Sami culture and a hot beverage indoors for the family after the ride.
Loved it!

We were picked up on time in Saariselka by minibus. After 15 minutes we reached the farm in the snowy middle of nowhere. We were pulled through the winter landscape in a few sledges. Afterwards, over a coffee, we were told about reindeer husbandry and the traditions of the Sami. A great event. Highly recommended!!!!

This is a review of our reindeer ride with Porofarmi. We only booked this trip after we had arrived in Saariselka once we knew which parts of our days were free from our activies included as part of our package. After a few emails we were able to book our ride directly with the reindeer farm once they had been able to confirm when they could fit us in.
We were picked up on time from right outside the front of our hotel and transported to the reindeer farm, probably about 20 minutes drive from Saariselka. Our driver only spoke basic English but I never have a problem with that when we are in someone else's country! Upon arrival at the farm we watched them preparing the sleighs for us and then we were off. Unbeknown to us when booking this trip, we were the only people at the time we booked (becuase I think they fitted us in extra) but it resulted in a really personal feel to the whole thing.
We were two adults and three children (ages 8, 6 & 3) and were split between two sleighs, with our guide having his own sleigh up front. The sleighs were cosy and had furs and blankets and it was fine to sit in with one adult and two children (one between my legs) in one sleigh. At one point I did get a little uncomfortable but that was more due to my legs.
The ride itself was gentle, amazingly quiet with beautiful scenery. It is obviously a lot slower then husky or snowmobile rides and as you are not exerting yourself at all you can get cold so really wrap up well. Unlike husky riding, where we were controlling a sledge, because we were all just passengers in this it was easy to take lots of pictures and videos and cuddle up with the children. I'm glad I did it and it was a good experience with more amazing scenery but personally one hour on the sleigh was enough for me. At the end of the ride we were able to feed lichen to the reindeers (which the children loved) and then we went inside for some hot chocolate and cake. Whilst we were warming up we were also treated to some insights into reinders and the sami culture.
We booked directly with the owners for this trip just becuase I had already started communicating with them before I had any details from TUI on their trips. What we didn't realise until afterwards was that it was actually the same provider that TUI use themselves (we saw some TUI people on their organised trip whilst we were there). Out of interest I compared the price difference afterwards and it would have been almost double if we had booked the (same) trip with TUI - inadvertently we saved ourselves almost 300 Euros by booking direct! The main reasons for the price difference were a) TUI charged for children over 2yrs (compared to only over 4yrs if booking direct) and b) if booking direct the normal child costs are 50% of an adult, but TUI charge considerably more. Therefore it might be worth enquiring direct - it was easy to arrange through email and we paid when there.

We visited as part of an organised excursion from our hotel.
The farm had a family feel to it and the staff gave us lots of information about the reindeer and the Sami way of life. We had a short ride on a sledge pull by one of the reindeer, which I wasn't expecting.
We were provided with hot tea and cake and a reindeer driving licence

hi
I was just wondering if you could remember which company you booked the reindeer sleigh ride with as we are lucky enough to be going in December and just had the excursion list from tui and was going to see how their prices compare with who you booked with.
many thanks

Hi, we're planning to visit Saariselka in first week of Sep. Is your reindeer activity available at that time, or is this seasonal?
Thanks,
