The largest open space in central Altamura
Oct 2019
As the name suggests, this is a square located right next to the Duomo, and to its East side. On the front, it is limited by the Corso Federico II di Svevia, on the West side, by the Cathedral, on the North side by the Clock Tower, and on the East side by the Bistrot del Borgo. It is a great place to walk around and view the exterior fo the Cathedral, as well as the surrounding ancient buildings, to people-watch and to enjoy a meal or a refreshment at the Bistrot, especially when seated at an outdoor table.

The square next to the cathedral
Oct 2019 • Couples
We visited Altamura from Matera and found it a bit sparse on things to visit. We stopped here for a soft drink and snack at the cafe in the corner. It was lovely to sit in the sun at the end of October and watch the world go by.

Worth the visit townsquare
Oct 2019 • Solo
Townsquare thats definitely worth a visit. Its the heart of the city. At the piazza you can sit at multiple restaurants to have a drink or a bite to eat with a great view of the cathedral. Dont expect great busy things. It is laid back, easy going and relaxed.

Nice square
Apr 2018 • Friends
Very nice square in Altamura, called in Italian "Piazza" (it apparently means square), it's a beautiful place to spend a bit of time walking with friends. There is also some bar and other place to spend time in company

Where it all happens in a lovely town
Oct 2017
Altamura is a charming medieval walled town, not well known outside Italy, or even outside Puglia. Didn't see any other British tourists there, and almost all were Italian. But they are far outnumbered by the locals, who have a passagiata every evening through this Piazza. Very atmospheric to sit in here and enjoy.

This town seemed to be full of locals which made a nice change, and got you to feel the way the Italians here get on with their day.Surprised to see that even cafes close here for lunch!
