Highly commended by guide books etc this Aquarium has rather passed its sell by date. Perhaps the origins - founded 1881 by Henri du Lacaze-Duthiers - have been perpetuated but the Sorbonne could have modernised the displays during the last forty years! However the exhibits show, without much imagination, the various types of marine life from the Marine Park of... More

we were the only visitors just before noon, and actually enjoyed the view especially of the sea horses and of the octopus, in full activity. A good variety of fishes and shells. It's true the fish tanks are not very big, but still clean and well kept.

We have been to Banyuls many times but never visited here. As the new aquarium will open next year thought we had rectify this. Yes it is old but very interesting. A great insight to what is beneath the sea in this area

Fascinating, atmospheric and genuine aquarium which makes very little concession to tourists and feels like a proper research facility. Lovely local and Mediterranean specimens, hypnotic displays, cool and shady. Beautiful!

Very friendly staff, but this series of tanks (about 30 small ones) in one loop, looked as though it was unchanged in twenty years and held little to keep the attention of our small folks.

We enjoyed our trip to the aquarium. It was a dull, chilly morning so we wanted something indoors. As we entered there was a sign saying it would take about 40 mins to look round and this was about right. We took a little longer than this because when we'd almost finished looking round they started feeding the fish, so... More

Passed an hour and was quite good but is quite old and needs modernising.tThe price was reasonable and included a visit to the Mediterranean gardens a couple of kilometres out of town.

We arrived at 12.30 in the month of August to find this seaside resort tourist attraction(?) closed for lunch! One room of small tanks, and difficult to see if anyone else was in front. Although the signs were in several languages, there was not a lot of information. One dirty, smelly toilet for all to use. Came away feeling very... More

If you are expecting a large, modern and state of the art aquarium as found in large resorts then this is not for you. What you will find is a small, charming and wonderfully old fashioned room full of tanks with some amazing sea creatures and plants. The signs are in several languages and the staff very friendly and welcoming.... More

We really enjoyed this very interesting aquarium and our visit lasted nearer an hour than 10 minutes. If you take the time to look carefully in each tank there are many interesting and unusual creatures there. There are labels in several languages, explaining about the creatures and their importance to the area and the general environment. Yes, the tanks are... More
