About
The Mercadal square was formerly the market place . Here are some of the most iconic buildings in the city ( City Hall, Casa Navàs and the Gaudí Centre) and the main cultural and festive events such as the Festival of San Pedro , develop by the end of June . Throughout the year there is a lively meeting place for citizens and visitors , occupying the many outdoor cafes . Market Square is also the " gateway" in the old town , which extends around the Priory Church of San Pedro .

A traditional main square
Aug 2021
Placa Mercadal is the main square in the centre of the old part of Reus. Many of the streets leading to it are pedestrianised. It is bordered by restaurants and the town hall, and the streets around are busy with bars and eating places at night .
The square itself has a traditional aspect with well worn stone under foot, seating areas, and the wonderful Casa Navas in one corner. It is the location of the traditional christmas market and other local holidays and festivities. An evening walk down Carrer Monterols past the boutiques and other shops to the square has all the feel of a typical mediterranean perambulation.

Fabulous hidden gem.

What a gem of a place! Gorgeous little streets and squares with cafés, restaurants and bars a plenty. When I was there it was local holiday the next day and there was pre-holiday celebration. It was a bit like mardi-gras with everyone dancing in the streets, but with little or no alcohol involved, so it's extra busy and buzzing. There is a really friendly atmosphere with loads of families about. Definitely worth trying to catch this late September celebration.

Plaza del Mercadal. Heart of Reus
Jun 2018 • Solo
A walk around is short and bried. But take a seat at any bar or cafe, and admire the view and feel the atmosphere of the city and people from Reus and around the world.

A large area in the centr of Reus with some interesting buildings. Not a remarkable space but I did visit on a dull day and it was fairly deserted. Gaudi museum is on one side - but it was shut!!

Very relaxing.

Sat with a glass of wine, mid evening, watching the families go by. Open space for kiddies to run. No traffic. Attractive buildings (particularly Casa Navas)
What could be more pleasant? Nothing. We enjoyed our Reus break nightstop and would recommend it for a visit.

If you are coming in Tarragona or Salou or Cambrils, don't miss this gem. Altough he don't have beaches he has such a history to show you. Plenty of restaurants and coffe shops where you can try vermuth made in the city. Really original. And it is easy to get here just take the bus from the above mensioned cities don't even need a tour gide.

Just the squaREUS
Oct 2017 • Family
When you are spending some days in Costa Daurada you are not expecting to face such a beautiful city as Reus. It is the city of the architect Antoni Gaudí, so It is giving some clues about that.

And for sure the main square, which has been changing the name along history, is the jewel of the Crown..

We use to spend two weeks on the beach, in Cambrils, and weekly are visiting Reus for a nice dinner and having some drinks in any of the several bars and restaurants just in front of the square or nearby streets.
It is many times almost overcrowded, but I find it is part of the charm.
