About
Of three formerly functional windmills used within the city borders this windmill is the only one preserved. Initially this construction was known as the Trei windmill, after the name of its builder and owner. The windmill was built in 1899 and it was used until the beginning of World War II. The restoration of the windmill began in 1972 and it was reopened as a coffeehouse in 1974. The aim of the restoration was to preserve the initial constructions of the Dutch type stone windmill. Good to know: the windmill was declared an architectural monument of national importance. The windmill is 17 m high and if we include its wings then its highest point reaches 24 meters of height.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Cool setting! The mill is very nice, and many of the tables outside are made of stones used for millimg back in the days. Also an up-stairs outside ”balcony” which probably has great views.
Very good, young staff who are both nice and efficient. Excellent drinks (recommend a Craft GT with local schnapps). Food very average though. Nothing wrong with the food, but nothing special at all either. Beef burger in bread bought at Maxima was plain, grilled pork a bit better.
The reason this restaurant is ”among top-100 in Estonia” is probably to a large extent the setting and ambience, plus maybe drinks and staff.

The islanders have a wonderful heritage, the mill in very good condition is used as a national restaurant.
But the food at the mill is also great!

Typical estonian meals very delicious, staff was very nice, prices very good considering how famous in Saaremaa this place is.

Nothing spectacular to see here-so many beautiful shoppes and buildings to see in Saremaa so no need to stop here.

Had a very pleasant fish dinner that came with salads and bread for a reasonable price. This is a casual place and does cater to tourists, but still good food and a nice change to have the windmill to visit too!

The food in this restaurant is of a good quality and copious. We enjoyed 2 meals there. We also visited the windmill on several floors which is very interesting.

Good spacious, bright. I ate grilled ribs. Ports were great. Unfortunately, the ribs were dry, only mayonnaise was added to the sauce. Swing borsh. Seasoning problem.

One good option to have dinner at night in Kuressaare, but not the best. Better options are local farms in country side.

We ordered them because they were recommended in the menu as something special. They were not, at all. I’ve tried much better ones anywhere in the world, but the pumpkin soup and the wild boar dish were good and the service was professional and fast. Also the setting is beautiful and the windmill interesting to visit up to the top.
