About
The Strada della Forra, or Sp 38, is described as one of the most beautiful roads in the world as well as being certainly the most beautiful panoramic road on Lake Garda. Precisely because of its breathtaking view and the hairpin bends that climb the mountain with the image of the lake always in the background, it was used as a backdrop in the filming of the Quantum of Solace film of the agent 007 James Bond saga. Till 30 september, due to intensive traffic, the street will be one way uphill from 10.00 to 19.00 – from km 0 (intersection with Strada Gardesana locality Porto) to km 3 (locality La Forra) – restaurants on the road accessible 24 hours a day in both directions. During the day, before 10.00 and after 19.00, is on the traffc light in the narrowest point. The traffic rules are valid for cars, van, camper, motorbikes, ebike and bycicles.

Narrow road, but the one-way uphill traffic from 10:00 to 19:00 (summer only) makes the drive so much easier. Not so many places to stop - so take an opportunity when you see one.
Truly spectacular views down the valley to the lake.
Driving less scared than the narrow tunnels on the lakeside road - but do not attempt in anything bigger than a car!
Suggest lunch at Da Nando’s when you get to the top.

We were coming towards the end of our holiday in Riva del Garda and we decided to try something different. I found the Strada Della Forra online and looked at the reviews, some of which terrified my teenage daughter, who thought it sounded too dangerous and I would wreck my car. Many reviews said that it is okay if you are a very experienced driver in a small car that you know the dimensions of very accurately! I was in a Jag XF, which is quite big and did think twice because of the reviews.
Having decided to go, I found the road to be perfectly drivable; no worse than driving down Cornish or Welsh country lanes. The road is one-way during the day in the narrowest section (so there is no oncoming traffic anyway) and the tunnels are not too narrow at all. The road winds up the mountain and into the gorge through a series of tight hairpin bends, which are actually quite fun and the views are spectacular of the lake and later of mini waterfalls in the gorge. There is a restaurant at the end of the 'tricky' one way sections where you can get pizza, drinks etc. you cannot go the same way down, but a roundabout route takes you back to Riva (or South, depending upon the route chosen).
It is a really lovely drive, and worth the visit as a break from watersports, hiking etc.

A really must do.
Road is narrow with lots of curves and with very nice views on the Garda lake.
It is a one way street (as of this year from 10 am till 17 pm) when you climb, so normally you cannot have oncoming cars. (otherwise there are traffic lights).
To get back you simply follow in the little village of Pieve at the round about the indications for Voltin, Vesio, follow that road untill you see a sign Limone to the right. So you will get back on the road around the lake.

Spectacular road with overhanging rock formations that make the route a real adventure. Very narrow areas where it is sometimes not possible to pass an oncoming car. You drive along beautiful areas with waterfalls, beautiful nature.
The road is closed from top to bottom between 10am and 7pm.

Thanks for your review.
The street is one way up hill from 10 am to 7pm till 30/09/2020 and in this period there's no problem with the narrow areas.
Btw a little of attention is needed.
Hope to see you soon again in Tremosine sul Garda.

It is definitely one of the nicest roads that you can visit. The key area is quite short so we have passed by 4 times. You can also walk.

My husband and I were on a driving holiday, around the Alps (France, Austria, Italy) and went down the Lake Garda for a little change.
So we did a lot fantastic drives... But this one is truly outstanding! Very special. Especially the succession of narrow tunnels and turns. Highly recommended.

Beautiful drive on Strada della Forra in Tremosine, Italy: This winding road through an Italian canyon, along Garda do Lago, may be the most scenic drive in the world.
Enjoy it!

Dove posso parcheggiare
OneOnlyElisa
Asti, Italy13 contributions

È possibile farla a piedi?

Buona pedala.
