We stayed 11 nights in mid July at the Beatriz hotel Matorgorda. The beach in front of the hotel is pleasant, but lots of rocks in the sea. If you head left along the the sea wall, the next beach up is yellow sand & a little rocky in places, but it’s a very wide beach with lots of room to sit. Then if you walk along the beach or sea wall, you will come to pocillos beach which has beautiful yellow sand & is set in a bay. The water here is very clear & really warm & as it’s was just after the Covid lockdown ending in Europe, the beach which is really large was deserted, except half a dozen couples & families. You can throw bread in to the water & with in minutes there will be loads of fish feeding. There’s a spar shop across from the beach, just right of a small shopping & eating complex. It’s ideal for drinks, ice creams, fruit, snacks etc. If you keep walking to the right of the beach you will come to puerto del carmen, we never walked that far. I suppose is about 15 minutes walk from Matagorda, you can walk the sea wall way or the beach way, it’s probably about 3/4 minutes in a car, if you’ve hired one. It’s well worth a visit for a few hours. But take care which ever beach you walk on, the sand is boiling & trust me it will burn your feet. Plus there’s no where to wash your feet at the sea wall, we filled a bottle with sea water & used that to get the sand off.

We spent 4 days on the beach until the corona virus lockdown . 2 beds and a brolly was €12. Plenty of them. One day (full moon) the tide really came in, right upto our sunbeds, apparently it does this once a month so be aware of the moons or you will get drenched! Lovely and clean and no looky looky men, only once did we see a masseuse, but a polite no thank you and she never came again. Sea was cold and nice to swim in

Clean large expanse of beach. Warm sea. Disappointing lack of seashells and not many fish in the rock pools. A few prawns. Bit of seaweed. Not much marine biological interest here but okay for a bit of winter sun
