Pretty site but mediocre hotel
Jul 2021
This chateau hotel has the rather tired vibe of an old-fashioned establishment. Our room smelt musty and was not really comfortable, although clean - but the personnel was helpful and friendly. The swimming pool was tidy and nice, sparkling clean, However dinner was really mediocre. I can't really recommend.

Great food
Oct 2020 • Couples
Visited for a Saturday night last weekend

Restaurant atmosphere and food were outstanding

The setting is isolated and quiet - very restful

The chateau was converted to a hotel over 50 years ago and the interior looks a bit tired - very small bar and lounge

Our room was the cheapest on offer - large but tired for a 5 star hotel ....the back stairs to get to the room felt gloomy too

Maybe the more expensive rooms were better - we paid euro 230 without breakfast - a little expensive for the open amenities

I suspect 1 night will be long enough for a visit

Flop from start to finish
Oct 2019 • Couples
We have always blindly booked through Small Luxury Hotels (SLH) and known it would be a great stay. This visit has made me seriously reconsider what quality checking SLH is doing of the properties they promote, because this stay was very poor from the start to the end.

The rooms have no AC which make them feel very claustrophobic. We needed to sleep with the windows open, not a very comfortable or private experience being on the ground floor in October.

The breakfast is a joke. There are some stale breads and cold cuts laid out, but half the breakfast buffet consists of butter cubes. Everything else has to be ordered separately and is charged for. Secondly, upon opening one if jam jars, it had clearly been opened before and had mould in it. Needless to say, I had lost any confidence in their internal procedures and hygienic control systems.

Upon check out, the voucher which I had pre-checked and confirmed in writing with the hotel beforehand was for some reason not in their system. Their excuse was that "we always problems with SLH bookings", surprising since they had themselves confirmed in writing that they had the required details.

They apologized for the breakfast incident and suggested to waive off one of the breakfasts, again surprising since the booking, also reconfirmed by the hotel in writing beforehand, was complimentarily...

I have on several occasions given feedback to the hotel directly and through SLH. It's only end of November, more than a month later, the management sends me a letter saying they will offer me a glass of Champagne upon my next visit.

I don't know what is more disturbing, the incompetence with which this was handled by the hotel staff at the time, or the indifference and tardiness in the management replying.

Memorable and Stellar Place and Sraff
Nov 2019
My son and I were on a 10-day father-son trip through the Champagne, Alsace and Western Germany regions. I had been yo Chateau de Fere some 30 years ago and had kept a highly memorable souvenir of my stay there then. This time, it was even better as Emma welcomed us as if we were family. This is a gorgeous property located within 1.25 hours from CDG airport. We will be here again...in this lifetime! Thanks Emma!

Visit to Champagne
Aug 2018 • Couples
The Chateau was a great place to stay to visit the champagne region and when en route to Burgundy and the Alps. It was in easy reach of the main champagne trail and the many champagne houses. The Chateau also has an excellent restaurant. Our room was large and well appointed although a long way from reception, especially with heavy suitcases. It was also a shame that we were above the kitchen which meant that opening windows when hot and no air conditioning that smells and noise from the kitchen entered the room. The view of the ruins of the original 12th Century chateau was however excellent. The service was exemplary from start to finish. The staff could not be more friendly or helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them.

Excellent stop for Vanners
Mar 2018 • Family
We stopped here for one night. Visiting the castle, having a walk in the woods, enjoying the sunset in the castles precincts. Well worth a visit! Vanners: enjoy nature, keep it tidy!

Wonderful ruin of a re-build. Something very French about the approach.
Aug 2017
I think they have been re-building this longer than the building was up. It makes it quite a charming experience.
The view of the hotel from the castle is nice, looks like a great terrace...
Be careful, its not for the faint-hearted. As some of the walls and staircases look like they could collapse at any moment.
Nicest thing about it, the woodland walks around it. Worth a brief stop for pictures I suppose.

Country elegance
Aug 2017 • Family
I stayed here with my son. The hotel location is perhaps not easy to find but once you do find it, it's wonderful.
The staff were charming and helpful.
Our room was perfect with a good bathroom.
I had dinner (tasting menu) in the lovely dining room which was good, not sensational but good enough. I did find the dinner a little stressful but only because the staff were battling a bit. They did remain friendly at all times. House champagne was excellent.
The surroundings of this hotel are quite amazing and well worth a little exploring.
Dogs are welcome.
I would definitely stay here again.
