There are not too many sightseeing places around Skaleta and Rethymno. Since we were staying in Skaleta with the 1 year and 4 months old kid, we couldn't take very long trips. We had a rented car so the short visit to this lake through nice mountainous roads and villages was something worth doing for sure. The lake itself is... More

Just off the frenetic National Road near Georgiopolis, Lake Kournas is a pleasant place to cool down and destress for an hour or two. There are cafes and souvenir shops, but no need to buy bottled water, as you can just fill your bottle directly from the lake (the only freshwater lake in Crete). Good for a paddle too, although... We went to the lake after reviewing tripadvisor. Given that it was mid April and not yet holiday season the Lake was quiet. Parking is ample at the lakeside and is free. The restaurant owners try and make you park in spaces which are opposite their establishment to entice you to enter their restaurant after being in the Lake. We... More

Very nice lake to visit if you are in the area. Water is clear and you can see fishes and turtles, also a lot of water birds. Don't hesitate and take a pedalo boat, the view is fantastic while paddling.

Well worth a visit if your in the area, beautiful freshwater lake full of Turtles which can be seen by hiring a pedalo and paddling to the far reed bank, also plenty of small tavernas and gift shops around one end of lake. You can swim in the lake of of the shore or your pedalo. Great fun for all... More

The lake view is something you never forget... As are the trash you find laying around everywhere. The water is quite cold in April, so no swimming. Uaually I just atop there for the view and a cold one.

A spectacular and beautiful lake in the middle of nature, less than 10 minutes from Georgioupolis. You can rent paddle boats to go out on the lake or just swim in the crystal clear water. There are a few souvenir shops with very reasonable prices and several restaurants to choose from. See pics attached.
