Mirador Cascada
Feb 2020 • Family
We got a tuk tuk from Gracias (100 Lempira) to the visitor centre which is undergoing building work. After some confusion a man arrived on motorbike and issued us with our tickets (120 Lempira). We signed the book, we were the only hikers in the park.
The walk is well sign posted and easy to follow but steep in places as you climb from 1400m to 2000m through forest. We had a good view of the Cascada and the round trip took about 3.5 hrs. We walked from the visitor centre the 2km to the main road and managed to catch a tuk tuk back to Gracias (50 Lempira).

The park is nice for a hike. It was quite a cloudy day when did the hike to Mirador Cascada, even without the clouds I don’t think the view of the waterfall is that impressive. It took us about 3 1/2 hours. Costs L120 pp to enter the park and about L300 round trip in a tuk tuk from Gracias.

Hike to Cerro Las Minas
Aug 2019 • Solo
The whole park is very beautiful with multiple hikes and difficulty levels.

The hike to the summit is quite diffult about 9Km long (although the sign at the top says 7,46km), at times it is very steep, overall you go from 1400msnm to 2840msnm with some longer parts leading downhill on the way up which can be quite frustrating.

The trail is fairly well marked.
The entrance fee at the visitors office for foreigners is 120 Lempira (5$).

Depending on fitness level one should show up quite early at about 6/7 to be sure to return in daylight.
Overall the shluldntske anywhere between 6 and 12 hours.

The changing landscape while ascending the mountain really is breathtaking and totally worth it, would recommend it to anyone who likes hiking and is in decent physical Shape!

Get ready for a work-out!

Celaque is a beautiful park located just outside of Gracias. The trailhead location is poorly marked on Google maps if you’re driving by car. Ask anyone in Gracias or type in Plus.codes H974+4X Gracias Honduras. There are several trails. The shorter ones <1hr are all fairly easy. The longer ones are full day or overnight. The med 3hr r/t one ‘Mirador Cascades’ is a work out! You ascend from 1,400 to 2,000 meters and it’s a steady incline all the way up. The great thing about Celaque is that it is an incredibly well-maintained park. There is clear signage and frequent rest spots, with steps on steep parts. It’s cool, fresh air and a beautiful pine forest. Definitely recommend going to the park, and staying in Gracias!

Man was this hike tough! Very intense. But we accomplished it!!!

The forest is stunning. Lush, so green and clean, clear air. Just beautiful.

Still sore days later... haha!

Climbing Cerro las Minas solo - DYI
Feb 2018 • Solo
Very nice national park with few zones of vegetation, starting from pine trees, going through more tropical with many ferns above 2000m asl and finally reaching cloud forest above 2500m asl

It's a quite tough hike (some sections comparable to Guatemalan volcanoes) but no guide needed, very clear trail with many ribbons on the trees as well in upper sections. (actually trail has more signs than even most in Europe, maybe because Celaque NP is financed by German government).

Doable in a day, but overnight stay recommended. Abundance of water sources.

Times for a 30+ fit male with a camping gear on his back and almost running for his bus on the way down ;)
Gate-Visitors Center: 30min up/15min down, easy up
VC-junction to waterfall trail: 1h up/25min down, steady up in 2nd part
J2WT-Campanento Don Tomas: 1h up/35min down, quite steep in parts
DT-junction with Gallo trek: 35min up/20min down, easy, a bit up and down
JwGT-Campamento de Naranja: 1h15min up/35 min down, hardest part, steep up with many rocks
CdNaranja-before the summit junction: 1h10min up/35min down, a bit like Nepali flat, constantly up and down
SJ-summit: 20min up/15min down: another hard, steep section with many roots, fortunately not too long

Good maintained trails, spectacular view
Feb 2018 • Couples
We did the 4.5h walk to the "Mirador Cascada" which took us about 3 hours :)

The walking trails are very well maintained, there are drinking stations on the way, where you can fill up your bottles with the refreshing water of the mountains and resting places.

It's a very beautiful Pineforest area which remembered us of our forests in the southern parts of switzerland. But since the "culture" of honduras is to just throw away theire garbage and the missing of trashbins especially at the resting places, there was a bit of plastics laying around.

Entrance cost us 120 Lempiras per person (approx. 6 US$) but it was definitely worth it. Next time we would choose the 2 days hiking option with camping on top of the mountain, since it's a very beautiful place to discover nature.

Celaque Hike!

Great hike, great workout! Great experience with friends and new friends we made on the hike. Would definitely recommend this experience to everyone. You do need to be in shape though in order to complete the full hike. Two thumbs up!
