It is a historical attraction for tourists. The area is surrounded by hundreds of cafe and shops selling almost everything. Families can spend good time and take photos nearby the fountains with the citidal in the background.

Step back in time with a good wander around the old citadel. Years of neglect have taken their toll but many areas are now being redeveloped and are well worth seeing! Great view over the central square and bazaar. Can recommend a visit!

A must visit to one of the oldest inhabited citadels in the world. There is a nice carpet and fabrics museum inside it and you will find it interesting to walk among existing old houses and baths that dates back to hundreds years ago.

Citadel presents this astonishing architecture with its ruins. The visit at citadel itself is quick because the accessible part is quite small. From there you can cross the street and visit the market. It feels very safe and people are very welcoming in their shops,...More

Liked very much the walk around mixing in the crowd that is filling the souk under the arcades boarding the citadel, with a nice stop for a glass of hot and sweet tea.

When I arrived at customs they asked if it was my 1st visit and then welcomed me to Iraq. Very safe if not the most exciting place to be.
