If interested in the cultural side of Santorini and in ancient civilizations you must visit Ancient Thera. On top of the mountain overlooking the whole island. Driving up the narrow road with many turns is not easy. Although they were quite a few people walking...More

The site is very interesting, not only to historical/ archeological lovers. But imo, you must take a guide. Without it it's hard to fully appreciate the site (unless you are highly prepared in advance, of course). The entrance is 12 euros with some discounts for...More

The ruins were of decent size. If you're like us, you may have trouble finding the entrance. There's a building that looks like a house with walls on the side, go to the right side of that to pickup your ticket. Note: If you're planning...More

Definitely a must see. We hiked the hill from Perissa Beach. Quite the journey and not meant for the out of shape person. You can also drive around. But when you make it to the top, the ruins are absolutely fabulous. The views are on...More

Worth visiting just for the ride to the top and the stunning views of Kamari, the airport, Perissa and the plain beyond. The archaeological site is much bigger than I imagined. Ruins with a few partial structures. No shade other than one bench under a...More

Ancient Thera if HIGH up the hill from the beach. Get transport up to the ticket booth and then start the arduous walk to the top. Ruins are nice but not spectacular. A great cardio workout.

Great walk up from Kamari by a track (cobbled in parts, rough in others) with a lovely surprise half way up. The track goes past the prepared rock climbing area, so bear that in mind. The ruins are extensive and impressive, with the most magnificent...More

I'm not sure of the opening time. However I recommend that you ascend in the morning as it is fairly strenuous climb, and doing it in the heat is not good. Obviously, have suitable footwear and take water. It is worth the... More
