We were here on the weekend and thought it was fantastic. We did the aviary walk, ending at the free flight aviary, and then the kiwi house. There are longer bush walk options of 1hr and 2hrs, but if you have small kids or are...More
Extremely boring. Not much to see. Only saw the white kiwi bird which was not very impressive. Thought that there'll be more kiwi birds for viewing. Saw a staff smoking when clearly no smoking is allowed in that area. Disappointing, not worth $20
This is an excellent place to stop over for a couple of hours if you are driving along route 2. You get a lush bush location, a huge variety of native birds very close up - either wild nearby, in aviaries or in a super-aviary...More
I can't believe I have never been here before. It is a real highlight if you are visiting the Manawatu. There are many beautiful native birds, trees and Manakura, the white kiwi, who came within touching distance of us in her little kiwi house. The...More
We are buzzing from seeing a white kiwi (feeding within 1m of us), hihi/stitchbird, kakariki, tuatara, pateke, NI kokako, kaka, tui, bellbird, longfin eels. The Centre has lovely bush and the aviaries are all within an easy 10 walk from the visitor centre / cafe....More
We had a glorious day to wander around Pukaha - the environment is a fantastic complement to the native NZ birds and reptiles - at one stage we were the only people in the Kiwi house and had Manukura, the rare white Kiwi all to...More
A unique mixture of aviaries (birds) and forest subject to predator control (trees). Apart from the highly publicised threatened birds that can be seen in the aviaries, there are plenty of other wildlife in the forest if you keep your eyes and ears open -...More
Thank you for taking the time to review Pukaha - we love our kaka circus and they love their snacks!
Five of us out for a drive and headed to Pukaha Mount Bruce National Wildlife Centre. We arrived just in time to hear the talk on the Takahe, and it wasn't just a talk we were able to see the pair in their enclosure, what...More
Great that you had a lovely road trip and came to visit! Our takahe are very precious - and we are so pleased that you enjoyed your cake stop too..
Entry is not cheap BUT the money goes to such a good cause and the place really does educate. We enjoyed hearing from the knowledgeable staff and seeing the kiwis - especially the white one. The 2km walk (4.5km if you do the circular return...More
