Time has stood still.
We were here about 25 years ago and almost nothing has been modernized since then.
There are only the platter lifts that keep pulling on the rope.
Beginners can hardly get up without falling. The poles are usually covered in oil. Sometimes there are 2 lifts next to each other, but on other hills where there is only 1 lift, none of them run (yes, these slopes are not treated either). Only a few of the staff speak English, I have not found anyone who speaks German and no one speaks Hungarian either. They stand in groups of 4-5 at the lift entrances, but they just chat and don't help anyone. If you ask something, they just shrug their shoulders - they only understand Slovak.
The snow cannons are close together and are not used (although the conditions are there) but the snowmobiles run every night, even if they only dig up the ground.
This only happens on the main slope. They don't run where it would be easier for beginners to practice. There are even a lot of footprints on these side slopes - so there would be enough snow!
It's a shame that my children have to make this first impression.

Snow ❄️ conditions very good, all ski slopes good condition in the morning but quite rough around lunch time. Almost all slopes functioning. Ski lift 🚠 ready to get you up hill and chose few options slaloming downhill. Mostly red ski slopes

Hi, I would be visiting Park Snow DOnovaly in the coming weeks. Could someone please give me some suggestions on how to best reach the park from Banska Bystrica centre? Also, any suggestions for some beginner's skiing? where we can rent the equipment, and what are the average prices?
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Regards,
Josef

We came here on the last day of our Slovakia trip. We wanted to give the kids some good experience to finish off the vacation. We got a recommendation for the park snow in Donovaly, and were not disappointed.
Some of us went up the mountain with the cable car (need to dress warm even in the middle of the summer). The little kids (and bigger ones) went for the freestyle- and bugee- trampolines, and had a great time. Some went to the bob-slide, where you ride your own cart on rails down the mountain.
I took my 2 big kids to the rope park. It was really great. We first went through the simpler route to get the hang of it, and then upped the ante in the second time around. It was quite hard but the feeling of achievement in the end made us all feel great.
We spent at ski park excellent 2 hours, and could have spent easily 2 more.

I did three long hikes from the top of Chopok and in the area. It is superb. The views are stunning, the paths are challenging, but rewarding. The only thing missing is more services - more huts with refreshments other then on the top mountain and in the valleys. Also one of the paths goes over a part of the forest, which was torn down by a not-so-recent storm and many many fallen trees are over the path. No warning, no new marking. It made the path very challenging and navigating through the field over, under and around the tree trunks took 30 minutes longer.

Park snow is a nice place for a few days of skiing. Good facilities with slopes of different difficulties, and a single board-park slope with obstacles. There weren't many tourists when we where there, and most of the guests seemed to be local, which is nice. You can get a beer and hot meal for around 5€, a fair price in my opinion.

Close to Hungary yet already the Tatra. Unfortunately end of season so not all slopes are available. Lifts are in good condition, prices are rather low.

Thank you very much for your feedback, we recommend to visit us next time in January or February when there is much more snow on the slopes and all of them are available.
Looking forward to welcome you in Donovaly soon again.

Donovaly is good for families, to practice, or for beginners. Good skiers would not have enough slopes to have fun. The telemix is a fun mix of cabin and seat.
2 problems though:
- blue slopes and red slopes are not connected (unless tons of snow?) - you have to walk one kilometer between them
- even when only 4 machines out of 16 are working you have to pay the full 26 euros a day - in the alps (Avoriaz for example) when 30% of slopes are not open, you get a discount.

Nincsen szánkózási lehetőség, főleg a sípályán. Régen volt még zárás után talán a Zahradiste pályán. Azok a síterepek ahol kifejezetten van szánkópálya (mint Ausztriába több helyen) ott fennhangon hirdetik is a weboldalukon.
