Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Having tried to access the round tower, many times, over the years, I was finally able to gain access——a fair climb up the stairs, but I felt perfectly secure, and safe —-

Fabulous views at the top across the countryside, and time to wonder how the tower was built, hundreds of years ago—

It’s vital to keep this fine example of history well maintained, for future generations.

I have been in St Bridget’s church many times

We visited the cathedral on a very wet day so the shelter was welcomed. The man there was very friendly and welcoming and there was plenty of information booklets telling you about what’s on display. It is free to enter but there is a suggested donation of €4 per person which goes to the upkeep of the church. Without doubt the hi light of our trip was climbing the tower behind the church. This was €6 per adult and €3 per child but definitely worth it for the experience of climbing the rustic ladders and the view to the top. My young kids loved this adventure but you need to have your wits with you as the steps are old and steep so it isn’t for everyone as you need some agility to make the climb. The staff here were so lovely and showed us how to get the kids up and down the ladders safely. They even gave my kids some certificates to say they made it to the top of the tower. If you are afraid of heights or ladders etc, this is not for you but if you fancy a challenge, I would highly recommend it .

An Anglican Cathedral in Catholic country. It is so misplaced, I visited and got the sense of injustice.

A steward outside the Cathedral gave a short talk about the area and was very kind. Inside the Cathedral were amazing artefacts, historical documents and stone carvings detailing the origins of Cill Dara - The Church of the Oak. If the guide is present, the views from the top of the Round Tower are definitely worth climbing. You begin with four receding steps, and then a series of long ladders (mind your head if you are tall), The top of the tower commands stunning views across the countryside around Kildare and the grounds of the Cathedral.

Gorgeous cathedral and the round tower is an amazing experience…climbing up 6 rungs of wooden ladders of varying lengths and steepness. Make sure you say your most charming hello to Paddy who has been manning the tower tours for 22 years - 7 days a week!

Such a stunning church with a rich history. We visited here as part of a group visit to Kildare and we received such a warm welcome upon our arrival, We were shown around and received great historical insights into its long history.

I definitely recommend a visit here while in Kildare.

Beautiful old church and grounds. Sunday service is open to all throughout the year. The gate is unlocked each day so visitors can walk around the grounds. Check their website for open hours to visitors daily from May to September. There is parking in front of the gate which was always full during my trip. The pay and display one just around the corner was very convenient and free on the weekends.
